On the left side, near the pichup roller, of the tray there should be a "flag" hanging down in the elips hole. See if it is hanging down or stuck in the "up"position. If so pul it down and the machine should work fine again.

similar issue: my notebook hangs instead of restarting. i thought its the usb2.0 of my rather old(3yr) notebook. but i bought a cheap usb box for my old 120G hdd and it plug-n-play like a charm on the same old notebook/same usb port. quite frustrated with this Lacie 500G beast.
so i ended up backing up my notebook using the 1-click backup of Lacie but using my old 120G hdd instead of the new Lacie500G. but then, search as i would through the Lacie documentation, i see no mention of how to restore the data... still looking...
This happens to me on occasion with several brands of switches. I?m not sure what?s happening on the inside but what you in essence need to do is the equivalent of a cold-boot. That means powering down both PCs and turning of any power supply the switch may have attached to it. You?ll know when you?ve been successful when all of the switch LEDs are off.
Again this is and old question and it primarily intended for the person who is researching a new issue
