SOURCE: Cobra radar detector speaker replacement

I contacted Cobra via internet site and ordered the speaker. However, it has been on order for over 6 weeks and still not here. I would have figured this would be a relatively high failure item and would be stocked. Thanks for the response. ohmhead

SOURCE: i need a manual for

The Cobra XRS-757 is the same as the Cobra XRS-9330. The difference in model number is due to the 757 being sold at Wal-Mart stores.

SOURCE: undersatanding the 12 bands of cobra xrs 797

Its all marketing hype. Cobra breaks up the three X, K and Ka bands into sub-bands, and they do the same for the single 904nm laser wavelength. There are no sub-bands for X or K band. In the USA, Ka band radar guns operate on three Ka band frequencies: 33.8, 34.7 nd 35.5 MHz. Cobra also breaks up the single laser band based on the known pulse rates of various laser gun models. Yet in general if you get a laser alert from a nearby cop then likely you have been tagged and will be getting a ticket.

SOURCE: what do the the symbols Ka, K, X, L, and SWS mean

These symbols refer to the frequency of the radar gun's signals that are used to detect your speed. L is for laser, x, k and Ka band have designated frequencies that they use for radar traffic control. They range from around 10GHz. to 30 GHz. if my memory serves me.
A typical microwave oven operates at 2.5 GHhz or so.

SOURCE: radar detector codes

When any detector "detects" radar, it will produce some form of Audiable sound. If someone is speeding, they need to slow down IMMEDIATELY if they want to avoid a ticket. It doesnt really matter if the radar gun is x, k, ka, ku, etc. You will probably get a ticket if you dont slow down.

Most dectectors will have indicators lights or displays that indicate the x, k, ka, etc., radar signals are actually being detected. This can provide SOME useful information. THe letters simply designate BANDS of frequencies that are used to send the radar beams. It is similar to changing the channel on a radio - k and ka bands use HIGHER frequencies for their radar signals.

X band is the oldest radar band and it is used for police radars AND door openers at supermarkets and other locations. If you drive by a supermarket, your radar detector is likely to go off and it is almost certainly going to be X band. CHeck it out next time you drive by a supermarket with an automatic door opener.

Since the police and the radar companies like to play cat and mouse, newer radar bands have been invented that OBSOLETE the older radar detectors. When the K bands showed up in the police radar guns, the radar detector folks had to have a new product offering that would detect X band and K band. And the race continues to go on even today and now, there are LASER police speed detectors and the new "RADAR" detectors now need LASER detectors as well. If you want to know the exact frequencies of these "bands" (K, Ka, etc), let me know and I will send them to you. But they are operating in the tens of GigaHertz regions.

Why does my cobra xrs 9545 only do the testing and then shut off

The outside diameter of the power ports in cars varies slightly. If there's too much "slop" between the port and the plug, you'll have the indication you're seeing. Try wedging a some card board or similar between one side of the port and plug to help keep pressure on the side contacts - and keep the plug from falling out of the port.

You may even wish to hard wire the detector to your car's switched accessory terminal. This will remove the power port from the the equation and the detector will turn off when the engine is off, and automatically turn on when the engine is running.

Good luck!

Cobra XRS 9950 will not power on.

Usually there is a fuse in part that you plug into the cig. lighter. Should just be able to unscrew the end and see the fuse in the end.

What is pop and spector mean

POP is a type of radar mode which only a couple of radar guns have. In essence, radar gun in POP mode emits an extremely brief signal to measure a car's speed. This brief signal lasts for less than 1/5 of a second. POP mode can not legally be used to write speeding tickets since it is not as accurate as the radar gun's normal operating modes, and since POP mode provides absolutely no radar tracking history.

Most people turn off POP mode in their radar detector's options since POP radar is very rarely encountered and since users experience excessive false alerts with POP turned on.

Spectre refers to the Spectre radar detector detector (RDD) which police use to locate drivers who are using radar detectors. The current Spectre models in use by law enforcement are the Spectre III and IV models. Some Cobra radar detectors claim to be able to detect the Spectre I. This is of no value since all Spectre I RDDs have been upgraded to later Spectre models which Cobra radar detectors can not detect. In short, turn Spectre detection off since this feature is a needless source of false alerts.

Cobra XRS 9440 will not detect police radar. Does not alert when I drive by a police car. How can I fix this problem? Is there a way to change the settings so that I can be alerted when there is police...

Radar detectors are not police detectors. Radar detectors only alert to police when the police have their radar guns turned on. Most police officers operate their radar guns in "instant-on" mode rather than leaving their radar guns turned on continuously. Instant-on operation involves very briefly turning the radar gun on for up to a second or two in order to get a vehicle's speed.

Cobra radar detectors are known to have great difficulty detecting the 35.5 Ka band radar gun frequency. This should be considered a serious problem since 35.5 Ka is the second most popular Ka radar gun frequency following the most commonly encountered 34.7 Ka radar gun frequency. There isn't much that Cobra can do about this issue since their competitors hold all of the really good patented solutions for detecting 35.5 Ka police radar while ignoring false alerts caused on this frequency due to other radar detectors.

Cobra XRS 9950 Radar Detector not powering up

At the end of the power cord for the radar detector the end screws off and there is a fuse for the radar detector itself. Check it....

If that isn't the problem post back for further help.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!
