My Fridgidaire Electrolux Refrigerator is having the following "problem" - it has BOTH a cubed and crushed ice button. When either is selected (two separate buttons and when one is selected, it turns green), it will still ONLY produces crushed ice. I have tried selecting back to crushed ice, dispensing, and then going back to pressing crushed ice button - still, ALWAYS crushed ice. Any suggestions?

Refrigerator - Crushed Ice Only, No Cubes. If it appears you are getting only crushed ice from the dispenser, check the following: It is normal to get a slight amount of crushed or broken ice cubes before or while dispensing cubed ice. ... If no ice cubes are behind the bucket, try to dispense ice with the bucket removed.
fridgidaire makes cubed ice but crushes ice. could be push button on door, mechanism that crushes ice, if not mechanically inclined please call refrigeration tech to check out.
check to see if your ice solenoid on the rear of the ice maker bracket is seized up with ice. if so you can remove this and run warm water over to unseize solenoid. remove ice bucket and u should be able to see the solenoid close to rear wall. it is attached to the metal bracket that holds the ice bucket in place. usually two quarter in screws holds it in place
Pull out the ice drawer and close the door switch the crushed /cubed button put the ice drawer back in and switch the selector button again. You might have to repeat the process I had the problem this week and by jiggling everything around and running a good bit of ice thru it started working again. Good luck
the little gate/door, is a common issue, its a solenoid htat either burns out, or merelt freezes over. if you put your finger into where teh "shepard hook" supposed otgo, can you freely lift it ip and down???i would assum not, .the entire ***,bly lifts out of freezer( remove 2 1/4 inch scres under each corner and diconnect apower plug behind the ice maker. from ther you can try to defrost teh piston,if not rplace it.
i think it's simpler than that. there's a plastic gate that snaps UP for cubed and DOWN for crushed.
When you remove the tray, set it to CRUSHED, BEFORE putting the tray back in place.
