Look for grease in the washer, and look for lint that has gotten into the burner of the dryer. It is usually burned lint that causes this issue, correct dryer venting is the solution, after completely cleaning the unit.

Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.

Brown spots after drying clean clothes - looks like burn mark?

It sounds as though the dryer is getting too hot, which means the heating element probably needs to be replaced.

My clothes are being stained by brown/black marks. I think it is an oil leak into the drum. Is it a seal and is it easy to fix? Frigidaire Gallery Model # FWT647GHSO

Spots on clothing in a washer are usually caused by a reaction between detergent and fabric softeners, but to check and see if these spots are petroleum based (oil), try removing the spots with solvent. If the spots will come out with solvent, but not with soap and water, then it could be transmission oil that is leaking into the tub and this is very bad news. This was a common problem on the older GE and Hotpoint washers. Sorry to hear about the problem that you are having and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Same thing

Liquid fabric softners usually cause spots and/or marks on light colored clothing . If you rewash the clothing and the marks dissapear , then try using dryer sheets instead . However , if you have an older dryer , then clothing could be getting rubbed between the rear drum seal and panel , but that would cause streaks but no spotting .

Brown spots on clean white clothes

The drum seal is bad in your dryer. Those brown spots are burn marks. It's actually burning your clothes. Unfortunately this is not an easy fix. The same thing happened to my wife and I. I can fix many things, but I decided this wasn't worth fixing since I'd have to take apart the whole dryer to fix it. It would've been very time consuming and you'd have to have the technical ability to tackle the job. We just bought a new dryer.
