Hi jjmn2rcp,
Current is defined as voltage divided by resistance. By adding a load to the amp, you decrease the current. Normally the amp should compensate for this, but if the load is to high, the amp will shut down to prevent damage, which is likely what's happening in your case. The amp is rated for 13.8V DC at 10 amps, so make sure you don't have to much connected to the amp. You can find a manual and schematic for the amp at
Hope that helps!

Can low voltage cause magnatrons to fail?

That would depend on how low the voltage gets. Because the lower the voltage gets, the more current the device draws at that voltage to operate. Higher currents can, in some cases shorten the life of electronic components if those components aren't designed to operate under those conditions. I have a microwave oven that operates on a 120V AC circuit. This circuit normally carries about 117VAC, with the microwave under full power, the line voltage drops to as low as 104VAC. This is just due to the load the magnetron puts on the circuit. If you lowered the voltage by about 5 volts in my case, the current draw would be enough to trip the 15A circuit breaker that protects the circuit. If I were operating the oven on a 20A breaker with 12 gauge wire instead of the 14 gauge, 15A circuit I'm using, the voltage drop would probably be a lot less.

Proton Gen 2 petrol pump. Not working, no fault codes. What's wrong?

Remove the pump and test it outside the car. Your half second 12v sounds right. When you turn on the ignition switch the voltage to the fuel pump will only be on for about half second but when you crank the engine the voltage going to the fuel pump goes steady

Polorized generator as per manual. went from no output to .2-.4 amps. do I need to rebuild the generator?

Hi, I own a 1976 XLCH1000 and had a similar problem some years ago.
The dynamo must be energized correctly as if not it wouldn't work.
Disconnect the two wire on the dynamo.
Connect a volt meter from the armature connection to the bike frame, negative.
Start the bike up and on a fast tickover there should be 2 to 5 volts present. Momentarily connect, while still monitoring the voltage, a wire link from the field connection to the bikes frame (earth or negative of the battery). The voltage should shoot up to about 25 to 30 volts. If it does you have a good dynamo. If the dynamo is flashed the wrong way around then a negative voltage instead of a possitive voltage will be produced and damage the regulator if it is the electronic type, like on mine.
If the voltage is low, change the brushes and clean the commutator with some wet and dry paper scraping out between the segments to clear the dead carbon deposits. Don't forget the end bearings are "Oilite Bearings" Don't use grease a drop of 20-50 is fine.
Anywhere else in the world, we put voltage on to the field terminal to produce current at the armature, trust the Americans to be different!
Ride safe and loud pipes save lives!
Hope this solves your problem.

What is wrong when I get a clicking sound from left front engine compartment and the engine won't turn over?

Usually this is from a dead battery. The click is from the solenoid, which is an electrically operated switch. When you turn the key, there is enough power available to operate the solenoid. When the solenoid connects the battery to the starter, the load of the solenoid plus the starter is more than the battery has available, and the solenoid releases. Then the battery is not so heavily loaded anymore, and it again has enough power to operate the solenoid, and the whole cycle begins again.

Sometimes (though not as often) bad connections can introduce enough resistance to cause the same behavior. The current to operate the solenoid does not produce enough of a drop in voltage across the resistance to prevent the solenoid from closing the switch. But when the starter draws current, the voltage drop across the resistance lowers the available voltage below what is required to hold the solenoid closed, and it opens, removing the starter from the circuit, and the cycle begins again.
