I need to find out how to update this system its a brand new system and i want to watch movies off of the flash drive can you help me

Plug your xbox 360 in to a router with internet access or alternatively use a wireless network if you are able using the instructions provided on the xbox 360.
It should update automatically to the latest version of software.
Currently the xbox 360 supports file formats of AVI, WMV, MPEG - 4 Part 2, H.264 and QuickTime movie formats. The file extensions included are as follows: .avi, .divx, .wmv, .mp4, .m4v, .mp4v, and .mov.
Make sure that the movie you want to play is on of these formats.
To check the format that the movie is in, just view its properties window.
There are many video converters out there that will allow you to change the format of a movie if it is no compatible. Simply go to download.com and search for "video converter" or "movie converter".

I need to renew my ps3 BD encryption key to watch blue ray movie
Some newer blu ray discs require that your system be updated to view the movie. This is due to a security "encryption" set by various movie companies. (they are trying to prevent people from copying their movies).
If your PS3 is connected to the internet this should be done automatically when trying to view the movie.

Obviously make sure your connected to the internet either via wireless or plugged in directly with a ethernet cable.
Then go to the file that you wish to watch and try to play it, when it fails, the XBOX will recognize the update for the correct codecs and ask you if you want to download it.

You must have a live account and access to the internet. Put the flash drive in the 360, turn it on, go to video library, select the movie you are trying to watch. If it is a supported format is will ask you to download the media optional update (supports most avi, xvid, etc formats).

Since it says u hav 2 update the system to renew the encryption key, then update the system lol
go to settings then system update and it will update it to the latest firmware or u can dload it from the playstation website, this will probably solve ur problem :D

ohh and just to clarify sumthin...what type of movie r u playing, a dvd? and if so is it PAL or NTSC. if u hav a PAL ps3 and u are trying to play an NTSC movie on it, then sadly it wont work...

your PS3 software needs to be updated in order to play blu-ray.

Its explained on this page:

On that page click on the link that says "update the system software".

On the next page it will explain to you the different ways to upgrade the software on your ps3.

Have to re-sign in and update my xbox everytime i turn it on
