I have a centon DC8s digital camera but no instruction book. It was given to me by my son who says he doesn't have it now but thinks there may be one online? I don't know how to download the photos onto my laptop

Try formatting the cards on your PC. Alternatively I would suggest that you reset your Firmware or if it is not on the latest version upgrade while you are at it - this should reset anything that potentially could have been scewed.

Interesting search's and they always came back to Jessops in the UK. Looks like Jessops made the 8mpixel camera and sell batteries (3.7V).
I would be inclined to get back to them and ask - I tried about 3 sites that advertise manual for free but they don't have that Camera listed , Jessops do but only if you buy the camera.

Did the camera come with a disc ?
Tell them your copy is missing or got corrupted and won't open so you want another one on a later version of pdf. Ray

Presuming you're running OS X and not booting into MS Windows, you shouldn't need any drivers at all. I see the same logo, etc. on my centon's display when I plug it into my Mac (via a hub), so that's a good sign.
If the centon doesn't show up on your Mac's desktop, does it show up in Disk Utility? If it does, and it's grayed out, try selecting it and mounting it. If it doesn't show up in Disk Utility, does it show up when you open System Profiler and click on 'USB' in the left-hand column?
If it doesn't show up at all, try plugging it in with the battery installed.

If your using an SD card you might need to slide the lever on the side of the actual memory card itself. The little lever is a hardware lock that prevents it to be written to or files to be deleted from it.

Since all Centon's MP3 players seem to be alike with the only difference in storage capacity, this manual may serve you . . . it did for me with my 2GB player (whatever make it is.)

As for charging the batteries, if yours is like mine, then the MP3 player uses AAA size batteries, so you won't have any internal battery to charge.

wasn't 100% if you have the movex mp3(just plays music) or the movex mp4(plays music and video~)
as the picture on your question is of the mp4 so if you do have the mp4(has a big colour screen and plays video) here is the user guide link for that
