Edirol UA-25 External Sound System Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 06, 2011

For some reason I cannot select my UA-25 as the ASIO Device in 'Audio System Setup' in VST5. VST 5 always seems to select 'ASIO Multimedia Driver' as the ASIO Device, which has a latency of 750ms. The UA-25 doesn't even appear as an option in the drop-down box. I've installed the UA-25 on my system and the sound comes through the speakers okay, but the latency makes using virtual synths impossible. Please help!

I am having a problem getting sound out of a program called cubase 5

In cubase go to "Devices", there select "Device Setup", in the Device Setup windows go to "VST Audio System", on the top right you will see the "ASIO Driver" drop down menu, click it and select your sound card from the list. Also take a look into VST Connections.

Edirol not able to record on Cubase essentials

This interface works fine with other hosts but with cubase is more tricky. But you can fix it.

You need to disable the onboard sound card, also use the UA25 Asio drivers, go to programs/Steinberg cubase/ ASIO multimedia setup and you should see the UA25 outports are active and that the sync ref "YES" also that the UA25 Input ports are active. the next bit is a bit of fun select the Advanced options and select Detect buffer size, when thats finished select Check Buffers and Sync, press the start button and the test will run,if everything is ok you should have zero "Sync lost" and zero "Buffer lost"
Depending on how lower you want to get your latency , you may have to tweek the UA25 driver settings and re-run the setup above.

No midi sound

In sonar go to the options menu and select: Audio -->advance. and from the list select the "Asio" driver, then you'll have a new midi output (synthe sw...) select it to have a sound while playing MIDI files.

Do not get MIDI signal via EDIROL UA25

Midi is data only, there is no actual sound to the midi tracks themselves. They need to be assigned to either a software synth or an external synth to actually make the sounds you want to hear.

For instance if you load a demo of a midi sequance you will need to add a software synth such as the TTS-1 or Roland sound canvas which are general midi compatable and will play the instruments sounds assigned to the demo's midi channels. Use the Synth Rack feature in Sonar to open one of them. Then you will need to assign the output of each of the midi tracks to that particular synth and you will get sound. Make sure to assing the synth's audio track to you UA-25 as its audio output.

I would suggest reading in the manual and following the tutorials included in the manual to get yourself familier with how this is all done. spacer.gif

Lexicon Omega/Cubasele4

I've had this problem and similar ones. Following these steps seems to help:

Starting Cubase before switching on the Omega.

Go to 'Devices' and then 'Device Set-up'. Make sure you're in the 'VST Audio System' part of the menu. Make sure the Omega is selected as the ASIO driver - if not, switch it. Then click on 'Set to Defaults', then 'Apply' and 'OK'.

Or re-setting the Omega sometimes helps too.

It's a pain, though.

Delay on keyboard when using with cubase and reason

this is because of the lantency of your sound card and your driver settings.

with 2 seconds,
that sounds like you're using a MME driver for your card.

try to change the driver to ASIO (if possible),
if not, change it to directX

you can do that that way:

- Open up Devices > Device Setup > VST Multitrack

- Drop-down the ASIO Driver settings on the right side of the screen

SONAR LE NO AUDIO

Microsoft re-engineered the audio bus for Windows. HD Audio is hardware specific, in the sense that specific drivers have to be written to make a piece of hardware compatible with it. Roland is not writing a driver for the UA 25 because they want you to buy an UA 25EX. Get my drift? The UA 25 uses Kernel Streaming, the old way, which exists in parallel, sort of, with the HD Audio bus. But the new ways are always prioritized over the old ways in software, so there is bus contention (glitching).

To fix this there are a few things you can try:

1) Roll back to SP2. SP3 implements the HD Audio bus, so don't use that implementation. If your laptop has an HD audio sound card then I doubt it would work, but your UA 25 would.

2) Try ASIO 4 ALL. This fixed everything but glitching in VST instruments.

3) Reduce the amount of stuff your computer is doing. Optimize your OS by turning off the cute shaded windows and desktops and various processes that you don't need to see or use. There are sites for this. This increases available RAM, CPU time, etc.

4) Video hardware acceleration, sometimes, would fix bugs in software left in by not so clever programmers.

4) You can always just give-up and go along with the bastards and buy new stuff and toss the old stuff.
