Does it recognize the hard drive? is the jumper on the back of the drive set on master? Jumper should be all the way to the left. Hard drive also has to be locked in the dvr for it to power up.

SVAT 16 Channel DVR Hard Drive Change how do you Format Drive

To format a hard drive for use with a DVR system, you will need to connect the drive to a computer and use a disk management utility to create a new partition and format the drive. Here are the steps to do this:
  1. Connect the hard drive to your computer using a SATA cable.
  2. Open the Disk Management utility on your computer. This can be found in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools.
  3. In the Disk Management utility, locate the new hard drive and right-click on it.
  4. Select the option to create a new partition, and specify the size of the partition you want to create.
  5. Once the partition has been created, right-click on it again and select the option to format the partition.
  6. Choose the file system you want to use for the partition (NTFS is recommended for use with a DVR system) and select the option to perform a quick format.
  7. Once the format is complete, the hard drive will be ready for use with your DVR system. You will need to consult the DVR system's manual for instructions on how to configure the system to use the new hard drive.

How can I delete data from the hard drive of 'first alert' camera surveillance DVR?

Surveillance DVRs write over the oldest data when the hard drive needs more space.

You do not need to manage that manually. It is all handled automatically by the operating system of the DVR.

Cutts on and off

Sounds like a bad power supply or hard drive. Try replacing the hard drive first and see if that cures it. Otherwise, the DVR could be bad.
