In order to create a list, press STAT->EDIT and scroll all the way to the right of the column titles. Once you go far enough (usually past L6), there should be a column with no title and when your cursor enters it, ALPHA-lock should come on. Enter any name into the title box for this blank column. In your case, you will want to press 2ND->L2 (which is the "2" key's alt. function). Then press enter or scroll down the page. You should now have a list with the name you entered among your lists and it should work just like any other list.

When I push stat abd then edit, all that comes up is a list with "name" at the bottom of the screen. How do I get off that ?

Each "list" has to have a name. Usually, the lists are named L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6 ect. but you can give them text names as well.
To name the list, go to Stat--> Edit --> Input a name--> Enter To input a name, either do 2nd --> L1,L2,L3 ect.. or use Alpha --> Name

There is no L7 list. You can put your data in any available list. You can even create your own lists.
Anyway, to recover the L1,L2,L3, and L4,
Press [STAT][5:SetUpEdidor] [ENTER]
Calculator displays Done.

Press [STAT]. Under Menu EDIT, Press [1:Edit]
The List editor opens the L1,L2, etc. liststo let you enter your data.

It has been years since I had to use my TI-83 Plus and I can't remember how to clear the lists

  1. Press [2nd][0] to access the (CATALOG).
  2. While catalog of commands is displayed you can scroll gown to reach ClrAllLists.
  3. Alternatively, you press [PRGM] to jump to first command that starts wit C, then scroll down from there.
  4. Select command and press [ENTER].
  5. The ClrAllList commnad echoes on main screen.
  6. Press ENTER to execute command.
  7. Calculator answers Done.

A simpler way. Press [2nd][MEM][4:ClrAllLists] then press [ENTER]

Another more radical way is to reset the RAM. Press [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset][ENTER]. Calculator replies with Ram Cleared. Press [CLEAR] to erase the message.

To clear a single list:

Open the statistics data editor [STAT][EDIT]. Navigate to the list you want to clear. Press the Up arror to move cursor to the heading of the list and press [CLEAR] and validate by pressing ENTER.

Other way:

Press [STAT][4:ClrList]
Command echoes on main screen and you have to enter the name of the list. If it is one of the 6 accessible from the keyboard you press [2nd] [1, 2,3, 4,5, or 6] to enter L1, L2,L3,L4,L5 or L6.

I own a TI-83 Plus that just quite one day. I replaced the battery and still nothing. The display never recovered. Between my son and daughter and I this is the third TI-83 Plus that has had power circuit...

Hello,
When you change the batteries the display reverts to default setting. My optimistic guess is that the screen display is so light that you cannot see anything on it. This can be arranged.

A Try this before thinking of repairs.

  1. Push the ON button.
  2. Even if you see nothing, press the [2nd] key and release it.
  3. Press and HOLD the UpArrow key until the screen darkens.
  4. You may have to keep pressing UpArrow for a little while before you see anything.
B If that does not work
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key.
  3. Whileholding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared".
  6. Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message "RAM Cleared".
C. Third option

  1. Remove batteries including the backup battery for 5minutes.
  2. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and
  3. turn the calculator on.
  4. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
D. Last option

The last option requires the reinstallation of the system. So to use it you must download the TIConnect 1.6 software from education.ti.com. You must have the TI USB SilverLink or the TI Black serial cables ready. You must be connected to the Internet.
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [DEL] key.
  3. Whileholding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now".
  6. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
  7. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader.
  8. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
Ifthe message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit backon." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one batteryfrom the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

If all else fails you can contact Texas Instruments at [email protected]

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Clearing TI-83 screen

The CLEAR key will do that for most functions. However, if you are in some modes, like MATRIX>EDIT or STAT>EDIT, you will have to press 2nd+QUIT (the MODE button) to get back to a the regular screen, which you can then clear with the CLEAR key.
