You can use the windows formatting software that is on the pc, you need a memory card reader and once the computer sees the memory card after you insert it just right click on the card and choose format. I hope this helps.
There may be a virus attack and i think it must be showing o bytes space as well. well the chances are 50 percent. but lets try....now you have to format the usb there is no other option and windows wont allow you to format.Download the software HP disk format from the link below.
Install and format the usb with hp disk format tool. the link is below:
Backup all data from your hard drive to another hard drive or CDs or DVDs.
Turn off your computer.
Insert the USB drive to a USB port.
Turn on your computer.
Hit the F8 key when prompted to get to your system bios. Some computers required the Delete key or F2 instead of F8. There should be a note on the screen that specifies the key.
Navigate your bios (usually using your cursor keys) to boot from CD drive first. Save and exit.
Insert your operating system disc aka Operating System Restore disc. Your computer should restart. If not, restart it yourself.
Follow the instructions for installing your operating system. When the option to select which drives to format comes, you should be able to see your USB disk in the list.
Format the disk with FAT32 for Win98 or previous. Format with NTFS for anything after e.g. NT, 2000, XP etc.
Depending on your options, you may be able to opt out of the operating system install at this point. If it was running well beforehand and you can, leave your other drives alone and quit the re-installation.
Reset the computer to boot from the disc drive the operating system is on instead of the CD drive as before. You should have your working flash drive detecting and usable now in windows.
If you didn't get the option to opt out of the re-installation, continue to follow the instructions onscreen and complete the re-installation, formatting whatever drives are required. Note: Do not try to install your operating system onto your USB disk drive. Also be cautious when formatting to keep in mind all data could be lost.
When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy. You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs). Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health
As I understand, you inserted a disk in a card reader and you were connecting the card reader into your computer, is it right? If yes, then the problem could be the disk or the card reader.
* First, try connecting the card reader into different USB port. * Try connecting it in a different computer just to isolate the problem. * If the problem is isolated to the disk and card reader, try inserting another disk just to make sure that the card reader is working and plug it in to the computer. * If another disk works with the problem card reader, then buy a new disk. But if same problem occurs though you use another disk, try another card reader.
Doing these steps would let you know which is causing the problem.
All disks can be formatted or Erased, what you need is the Software to do it. I found Acronis to be the best software for this job, you just insert the disk and follow the instructions. But be careful, once formatted you can not retrieve any info back, and it also formats your Boot to where you have no system at all installed. You will then have to insert a system disk of your choice and install it to your new clean drive. Good Luck.
Get a flash reader that can read your flash card to a PC. Connect the reader and insert the flash card while the computer is running. This is safe because it is USB. Install the drivers for the flash card. Run the utillities that allow to format the card.
Some cards can be formated using the Windows format program that is for formatting drives.
Certain system software is needed to allow a Macintosh (running Macintosh OS 9.x or earlier) to access mounted compact flash cards. If this required software is not installed the computer will not be able to recognize the card and will display the following error:
DO NOT press the "Initialize" button, as this will completely erase the card and destroy all images. Click the "Eject" button and then enable the necessary system software. The following Extensions or Control Panels need to be activated:
File Exchange - Control Panel
Foreign File Access - Extension
The "Extensions Manager" Control Panel (found under the "Apple" menu) can be used to enable these items. After switching them "On" restart the computer to apply the changes.
After restarting the computer insert the card and it will mount on the desktop like any removable disk.
