Try first installing Microsoft Directx9c from the Microsoft site directly, link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displayLang=en

This should place the necessary missing files Skype requires.

Many of the d3d9.dll errors occur when you have older version of DirectX on your PC. For instance, you may receive d3d9.dll errors, similar to the ones listed below in case you try to run a game or a program that is specifically written for DirectX 9 on a PC that uses DirectX 8 or some other older version. Download the latest version on the DirectX Homepage: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx or search the Update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

1) Use can use the Skype via website: http://imo.im
2) Download the Skype again (full version): http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

2) Try to install any other program - if you experience similar problems with missing files then maybe one of your RAM (operative memory) modules is damaged. If you have 2 RAM modules try to pull one of them out and check how computer operates and installs software, if something is still wrong, check the second RAM module alone. If you have only 1 RAM module, re-plug it to another RAM slot (maybe the slot is damaged).

Hi,

YOU SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT NEW RELEASE LEVEL IS NOT SUPPORTED ON WINDOWS
XP

I just bought a HP webcam, downloaded this latest version of SKYPE and could not get it to work. Last night I spent over 2 hours with HP support. The problem resolution was that Skype 5.0 does not work with XP. HP support installed SKYPE V4.2.0.169 and got it working. Your download web page still says download new version...

thank you

Try updating your DirectX from the Microsoft site.

OR

Find 'd3d9.dll' file in GOOGLE, downloaded it and put into ..windows/system32 (replace existing), restart PC and now the problem is solved.

Whenever we try to open skype a dialoge box apppears showing fatal error failed to load library d3d9.dll.

You will have to re-install the Skype application in order to get rid off the error.
Please follow the below step:
1. download and install the Revo uninstaller application online(It's free).
2. Look for the "Skype" application and select the "uninstall" option.
3. Select "Advance" scan and remove all the remaining files of skype.
4. Reboot the computer.
5. download the d3d9.dll file from the following website http://www.dll-files.com/pop.php?dll=d3d9
6. Copy the d3d9.dll file and paste it at the following location C:\windows\system32
7. You will have to register the dll file before installing the skype application. To register the dll file:
Click on "Start" menu and select the "Run" option or Simply Windows key+R
Then, type regsvr32 d3d9.dll and click 'OK" .
8. Once the dll file is registered, you can install the Skype application and continue using it.
I hope this should fix the issue.
Thanks, Vicky
