Open the command prompt and type ipconfig, the default gateway is the address you need to log into in the browser. Keep in mind ICMP pings may be blocked by firewalls.

How to set up the password i put already the http://192.168.0.1 but its not openning my internet by that

It is possible that your router is on different default address. You can always reset router by pressing of reset button for around 10 seconds. Lot of router are then on http://192.168.1.1 by default. Default password can be admin or 0000 or 1234 (see router documentation. If you have good connection to router, when you ping 192.168.1.1 you will see response. If you can't ping (from DOS window: cmd).
When you going in you can always change this password on some tab (depend of router).
Good luck!

I am trying to set up security on my wireless router, NETGEAR instructions say to go to HTTP://192.186.0.1 but I get an error message and cannot go further. Do you have a FAQ on this?

You need to make sure it is connected by Ethernet cable and go to address http://192.168.0.1
Username: admin
Password: password

If that fails try doing
Start > All Programs > Accesories > Comand Prompt (Right click and run as administrator for Windows 7 & Vista) > Type Ping 192.168.0.1
You are looking for it to say Ping Statistics
Send 4
Recived 4
Lost 0
That will tell us if your computer is communicating with your router correctly.

How can I secure my wireless router

Greetings,

The first step in securing your router is by changing the default administrator password.

Second, choose an encryption type other than WEP. WEP can be easily broken by hackers. This means setting up your router and devices with WPA or WPA2 encryption. The nice thing about this is you can use PSK (Pre Shared Key) which means at all devices you connect to your router with, you only need to know your SSID (Network Name) and your Key to connect. A Key then is like your account password and you should include numbers in it as well to help prevent someone from guessing your password.

Another good idea is to disable ICMP (Which PING uses). Hackers use a Ping to see if something "interesting" is at your IP address. If they get a response they will look further to see what you have and if they can access it.

I can't connect to the internet with dlink router

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings.
Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router.
Click on wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

I am not able to ping the IP 192.168.0.1 of the SpeedStream 5100 Modem

Does the 5100b not have a "pingable" option? Or something about allowing WAN ping?
You might have to go into the advanced options or whatever to find the option to allow pings.

Can't send e-mail

Check your network connection. Can you visit web pages? If not, check your network cable, modem, etc.

If your connection is good, try pinging your outgoing mail server.

If the ping fails, phone whoever maintains the server, and ask them when it will be back online.

If the ping is successful, try closing, then opening your mail client. Doublecheck the settings for outgoing server, port, encryption options, username and password.
