When I put my kirby vacuum in drive I get a bad shudder/vibration when I push it forward. I can prevent the vibration by pushing it very very slowly but if I move it at normal speed the whole unit shakes. I thought it was a brush problem but if I leave don't put it in drive the unit works great with no vibration but it is very heavy.

SOURCE: Kirby G5 - the Tech Drive does seem to have much power

you need either a new nutreal cam bracket assembly, that is what engages and disengages the tech drive.OR to adjust the handle pivot assy- diffucult . this is not for the faint of heart. it is possible to fix them as i used to repair kirbys, however, I remember how frustrating it was to figure out how to disassemble and reassemble them. it is very complicated to a novice. I would recomend having it repaired professionaly. it is possible for a professional to repair it in a very short period of time.

another thing to consider. look on the UNDERSIDE of your Kirby, between the two drive wheels. just in fronnt of the tech drive/nutreal switch. there should be a screw there, tighten that screw up. actually tighten all of them. on My generation 3 the center screw came loose and it would not go in to drive and it would make an aweful clatter. hope this was helpful

SOURCE: Carbon Brushes wearing out quickly on Kirby Heritage II

4 possible reasons.
1 – one or both bearings are worn so armature (rotating part) wobbles as it is spinning and cause motor brushes to wear fast. Solution – change bearings too.
2 – Whoever replaced brushes – did not use some brush seating sticks to make cmutator smother and contour brushes to the shape of the comutator (not likely). Solution – appropriately install new set of brushes.
3 – Comutator is so warped that seating sticks do not help anymore – solution – new armature or turn the old armature.
4 – The fact that ONLY ONE brush was worn may mean that there is something wrong with the brush or housing. Maybe it could not move freely within the housing? I think this may be most likely cause it it may be a combination of all 4.Is it worth to fix? Hmm depends how much will it be. If this is 100+ - I’d say get newer Kirby for 300 ad enjoy the tech drive (Heritage does not have tech drive so it is much harder to vacuum with than the newer models)

When I push the handle forward it comes back and when I pull it back it pops a wheelie and goes forward please help

I've had that exact issue with a Kirby Diamond Edition. What has happened is that the bracket inside the machine that activates the forward and back motion of the tech drive has come out of its slot. The only way to fix this is to disassemble the machine and put it back into place.

Kirby will not push forward, wheels are locked

Check the back side at the bottom to see if there is a lever (switch) that has an N on one side and D on the other. You press N to roll the vacuum when it is NOT ON. N is for nuetral. You press D when the vacuum is ON and you are using it. D is for drive.

My kirby g4 motor runs backwards and so the power drive when pushed forward wants to go backwards. I need the wiring diagram so I can get it wired correctly.

The wires to the switch, coming from the carbon brushes, have been reversed. The carbon brush closest to the switch goes on the lower switch terminal.

Kirby ultimate g

Vibrating – that usually happens on some short fiber or very dense carpets. When nozzle goes against the carpet fiber Kirby starts jumping. Try vacuuming the same place while facing opposite way.

Belt – red arrows means DISENGAGE. When you install the nozzle on the Kirby unit while green arrows match you will not be able to turn it on red. You must follow sequence (starting from nozzle off the Kirby, green arrows match, Kirby front lifter all the way up by pressing one of the pedals):
1. Turn Kirby knob to match red arrows. You will feel some tension and hook inside of the nozzle is supposed to catch the belt and stretch forming a loop for the Kirby shaft.
2. Put the nozzle on the Kirby and lock it on with the latch.
3. Twist the knob back to match the green arrows. YOU ARE DONE

Go to GoodVac.com Kirby vacuum online manual. There are some small details that you may want to pay attention to if you have removed the brush roll to install a new belt. Also there are some pictures that will help you understanding the process.

KIRBY 5 PROBLEM

make sure the lever it the very back of the machine is in the on or drive position, make sure the height is up high enough ( the higher the better as long as it is still cleaning - lower is not better ) and change the belt even if it isn't broken they can stretch out in less then a year of use.

How to make it blow?

If you want the Kirby to blow, take the bag off down at the motor, and hook the coupling on your hose onto where the bag went. There is a little black lever sticking out of the vacuum that you can push forward with your finger. That's the safety switch. When you have the hose on correctly, it should push the safety switch and engage it. Also, there is a tool in your attachments that fits on the front of the vacuum when you're using the blower. It's so that you can take off the head of the vacuum, and put this other device in its place so that you don't have the brushroll spinning in place on your floor. It will have two hooks on it and look alot like a cup with a screen on it. It's to go in place of the head so that it will be pushing in the forward part of the safety switch. Also, put it in neutral before you switch it on. Good luck!!
