It's the nature of the beast. The TV has to process the digital video bitstream more than the receiver has to process the audio so the result can be a gradual lagging of the video behind the sound...

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. You didn't name yours so one does not know. Look in the manual. If it's not there then there is no audio delay to eliminate it.

Sony dav s550 dvd has no colour

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

The display setting is set to NTSC either on the TV or DVD that's why it is showing in black and white.

Check the DVD display settings and change it to Pal or auto, save and try again. Also, check the PAl settings on the TV.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, then it means there is an incompatibilty problem between the TV and DVD.

I hope the above is clear.

I can't find the manual eject hole. how close to the bottom? is the E very big?

The manual eject button for the Sony BDP-S550 is located on the top right edge on the front of the of the player.

The manual for the Blu-ray player is located here...
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/BDPS550_US.pdf

Also, located below is a picture of the Sony BDP-S550. If you look on along the edge of the top right on the front of the player, you will see a button with the eject logo on it.

No power to player!?

Hi,
the fuses are the first obvious suggestions.
in the main AC plug, and if theres any sign of fuses on the Circuit board itself.
If it,s over 2 years old, i,d think about getting a replacement.
as repairs nowadays cost an arm and a leg, and only usually warranted between 30-90 days.
If it,s done it,s job. then it,s time to think about a replacement.

No power to player!?

Open it up and check the main fuse. It is located on the board where the wall plug enters the chassis.

Movie freezes, skips.

Does sound like the laser. Realitically, not worth repairing. I'd say you'd be worth connecting a cheap DVD player to the system - then the Sony can carry on providing the surround sound audio and the new DVD player can provide the video. Then, if the cheap DVD player is still going, it can move to a bedroom TV if and when you replace the surround system....

Otherwise, I would imaging the speaker set (and even the non-working DVD player) on its own might fetch a reasonable price on an auction site - anyone who has a stolen DVD unit will probably be desparate for the speakers as Sony don't sell them separately!

Disc sticking

Lasers are mechanical and focusing parts. Over time, mechanical parts can wear out and focusing parts lose focus.

Try a wet/dry laser cleaner using alchol based cleaner. If this doesn't work, connect a cheap DVD player to it so the Sony system can provide audio....
