I get an error message of signal not compatible on my Sharp Aquas TV when connecting my Dell 4600 to the TV

Are you tying to connect a DVI input or a VGA input (DVI is usually a white cable, VGA is usually blue).

I have a dell dimension 3000, bought a new HP 2310E monitor with 3 ports. DVI, HDMI & display port. Told to buy a cable with VGA to connect to dell and DVI to connect to HP Monitor display port....

Hi sshorne9780,

I see that you are having a check input error on the Monitor/LCD that your are connecting to your Dell tower, please see steps below.

  • On your HP 2310E make sure that your HP is set to the input/source that you are using and make sure that you only use one type of video cable for the issue.
  • I see that you mentioned that you have a VGA cable and a DVI cable, you can only use one type of cable for a video connection.
  • VGA would be the Blue tipped cable connecting to the tower and going to the LCD monitor.
  • DVI this is a black cable connecting to a white port much bigger than a VGA port and is rectangular in shape unlike the VGA
  • moz-screenshot.pngmvincentc_34.jpg
  • and on your LCD monitor check the input type to see video from the tower.
  • everything seems to be OK you just need to change the input of your LCD monitor for the video to show up on the screen.
  • also if you are using HDMI for the video u will need to change the setting of your Audio and set HDMI as the Default to have Audio come out from the HDMI connection together with video, the HDMI viedo will automatically be detected as long as the LCD monitor's input is set to HDMI.
I hope that this will able to help resolve your concern.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

My monitor has gone to Power Save Mode

Hello,
If your monitor is going in Power save mode it can be cause by following reasons.
>Check the data cable going from monitor to your Dell Dimension 4600 Tower is connected properly. The connector will be blue or white in colour.
>If the Dell Dimension 4600 Tower is powering on.

If still in power save mode then try to shutdown Tower and monitor, disconnect power cable from tower and monitor.Hold the power button on tower for 15 seconds. Then again try to connect monitor and check,if still nogo, and if tower has no lights then issue with motherboard or video card or power supply. If possible try connect spare known good monitor.

Thankyou

Extended Desktop on Dell Dimensions 4600

yes your right..leave it set to AUTO BUT ONLY USE THE ATI CHIP SET VIDEO CARDS.

Dell Dimension 4600 We saw great image quality from the 17-inch E171FP analog LCD monitor that accompanied our review system. Text looked sharp and evenly focused at all sizes, while colors appeared lifelike, with evenly saturated tones in our photo test screen, in a DVD movie, and during a session of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. As part of a new case design for Dell's midrange Dimension line, the 4600 has eight USB 2.0 ports, more than on most value (and some power) systems: six on the back and two up front. An audio port for connecting headphones sits next to the front USB ports.
The compact 4600 does not have the tool-less accessibility of its predecessor, the Dimension 4500, although opening the case is easy: Just depress a thick L-shaped lever and lift off the side panel. You'll need a screwdriver to add a PCI card or a hard drive; unlike the 4500 series, which secured expansion cards and drives with innovative quick-release mechanisms, the 4600 series uses screws. Our test configuration had only one available drive bay (a vertically mounted internal bay), and it's a struggle to use it. You must remove four screws (two on the bottom of the case and two inside) and take out the bay holding the existing hard drive along with the empty bay that's crammed up against the front of the case. The two open PCI slots are reasonably easy to access, but to reach the two open memory sockets, you must push aside a snarl of data and power cables.
The Dimension 4600 we tested came with a 2.8-GHz Pentium 4 processor and 512MB of DDR400 memory. It earned a PC WorldBench 4 score of 122, about average for similarly configured systems. The ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card is not a top-of-the-line board, but it yielded solid frame rates in our gaming tests. And it's perfectly fine for playing games at moderate resolution, especially considering that the bundled LCD monitor won't display anything higher than 1280-by-1024 resolution. It has a combination DVI/analog-out port (you use an adapter to hook up an analog monitor), plus S-Video-out and composite-out ports to output video to a TV.

Slave drive into Dell Dimension 5100

Yes it does. It may not have an IDE cable if using SATA hard drive, but it does have a port on the motherboard to plug in the cable you take from your 4600.
