Can I use a compaq persario without a mouse? I am not sure if this is the right model. It just says compaq persario and has windows vista. the mouse died.

1: try that bad mouse a good pc.
2: try a good PC mouse on the bad PC.

LOL, see Windows 7 is not much better than Vista. The same group of knuckle heads wrote it. Have you ever noticed that not many corporations, school systems or government entities have migrated from Windows XP to Vista or Windows 7?

Windows 7 is missing a lot of drivers and that could be your problem. You can go to your manufacturers site and see if they have Windows 7 drivers for your Touchpad and Mouse.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Compaq Support" or "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.

You need to install the audio driver again.

what is the specific device that you are trying to install the driver? if you know the device, get the model number and go to the manufacturer website and download the driver.

get to the mainboard
there is a jumper near the cmos battery usually shows the
word (jbat) near it , try to change its position for some
seconds while power is off , this way will clear cmos and set the
mainboard bios to default settings.
start the system hit delete or F2 to enter setup then exit saving changes.
