When I turn my wii on, the screen is black and white and a bit fuzzy. There is no music but you can play games on it. Also, some sounds do come through like when you bump up against something while playing Mario Bro's. Worked fine for the last year. Thanks, Alex

Access your TV's menu screen and be sure that your TV screen is expecting input from "AV" or "Video". If you have "S-Video" selected, this is the cause of why your Wii is playing black and white.
With the yellow, white, and red AV cables that came with your system:
Did you have to use the red/green/blue inputs on your TV because it doesn't have the standard (yellow) AV inputs
If this is your first time hooking up the Wii console or have you moved it to another TV, Our experience shows that many times this issue can be solved by double-checking your connection and finding the correct Input Select for your TV or VCR.
With the blue, green, white, and red component cables (sold separately):
Review our step-by-step Wii Component Cable connection guide to make sure the cables are properly inserted and that your TV is set to the proper input.
If you have verified the connection is correct, and are still receiving a blank or black and white screen when powering on your Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700
Try to play music cd's and other games to see if the Wii will read anything. Make sure the discs are clean as well. If the Wii is still not playing anything then that means the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.
I would check your video connection. And make sure all cables are secured. It is possible the video cable may be bad. Try it on another TV, if it works, it may be the TV
Have you tried doing a cold reboot on the Wii? Hold the power button in for about six seconds until it turns off. The LED on the front should be red. Wait a few seconds then turn it back on.
If this doesn't fix it you probably need to get with Nintendo. Your Wii might have bad memory.
The following fix should help users who do have problems with some virtual console games for the NintendoWii that display only a black screen after starting them while the sound remains normal. This does not work in all occasions but should work if you get the Wii menu when you press Home and works only for games that received an update for the interlaced mode.
Try out the following to see if this fixes the issue. Start the game normally until you see the black screen. Connect the Nunchuck to the Wiimote and press Home to see the menu options. Now press A + 2 + Z together which should result in a short “ping-like” sound.
This should have activated the interlaced mode. Leave the menu and you should see the normal game screen and not the black screen anymore. To change the mode again press A + 1 + Z using the same method as above
