It sounds as if your water valve is either clogged or the solenoid is stuck and not letting any water in. Here is a checklist of things you should do to help isolate the problem: 1) check to make sure the water is on 2) turn the water off and remove the water lines and verify that both the lines and the screens on the valve are clear of debris, calcium, etc. 3) take the top off the machine where you can actually see the valve, turn the machine on and see if the vavle is the humming noise that you are hearing. If so and no water is coming out then the valve is bad.
I suggest that you first check to see if the drum and pulley are turning freely, that there is nothing seized. Also, sometimes having a deteriorated drive belt (the one that goes to the drum pulley) can cause the drum to put too much strain on the motor and make it overheat. So it may not be time for a motor just yet, but if everything is spinning freely then you may just have to get another motor.
sound to me like you have a sock or some other foreign debris in the pump which is attached to your motor (thats your humming noise) now get all the water that you can out of the washer pull it out from the wall about a foot or two lean the washer against the wall making sure it wont fall on you look under and up and you will see a plastic part with two hoses on it this is the pump on the front is two clip on bracket with 1/4" screws remove the screws and pop off the claps lower the washer and start it again if it runs there is something in the pump if it humms and cuts off it is the motor. To remove the crud from the pump get alot of dirty towels for the floor and the remove the claps on the hoses after removing the hoses look inside and you will probly find that missing sock or a bra underwire let me know how it goes bill '
the humming is the motor trying to turn, which means it works. since you did not mention any error messages, it could just be a belt that slipped off the pulley. have you taken it apart yet?
yes i have a roper ras6233kg top load washer. I have not had any problem with it until about Two weeks ago, it over filled and it would only make a hummuing sound. Now it has dried out and have been working beautifully. Then Three days ago it stopped agitating, will not spin only making a loud humming noise. I guess its time to get another one.
Sounds like the belt may be off. Was it moved with the shipping braces out? It may have caused some internar damage. You might check to see if the hum is coming from the door lock area. If the lock is out it won't let drain or spin.
SOUNDS like the motor turning bad , if you hear humming and a strange smell ? yes, you might be needing a new main motor, if you can take a look inside while the machine is ON , check the belt to see if not broken , hope this helpful AJ
