Replaced caps on the psu / inverter board, but backlights only power up for 2 seconds and then off. The LCD is powered and can see it just faintly. I have replaced the backlights, tested them on a test inverter board from a different monitor and they work. Any Ideas?

Your inverter has gone , if you can see the screen faintly then the inverter isnt illuminating the backlight

Rca tv powers up has backlight no sound or picture replaced main board and inverter

I would check the input board for correct power supply input
check the blue 15pf 6kv caps near the output from the PSU to the inverter.

My samsung LE40R74BD set works fine for about 10 mins then screen goes blank (black) . It would appear there is no back lighting. I have visually checked the psu for blown capacitors but all seem to be...

This does not seem to be a power supply issue but rather an issue with the backlight inverter board. When the screen goes black, take a flash light and focus it on the screen from a close distance and several angles. See if you notice a very faint image. Try changing the channels to make it more noticeable. Try it and let me know

On my Acer AL1916W monitor the screen comes on for a few seconds then goes off but the power light is still green.

Hi.

That is often an inverter failure. Try turning off the room light, and point a flashlight sticking to the dark screen. If you can see a very faint picture, then the inverter has failed.
Before replacing the inverter, the PSU must also be tested. If the PSU does not supply power to inverter, then the PSU and not the inverter is the part to be tested.

If the screen is not dark, but there is backlight and no picture, then the problem is not the inverter. In that case check the source and the connection cable. If the cable is OK, then it is usually the main controller board inside the monitor. Once again the part must be tested.

Regards.

Ginko.

I have a dell 1525 laptop - I replaced the inverter, I replaced LCD the new LCD also had an inverter and I replaced the video card. I still get a faint dark screen. I can hear the music when Winn 7 boots...

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

What do you mean you replaced the video card? that is impossible, you would have had to replace the whole mainboard.

Okay you replaced the inverter, I suppose it was a tested and known good condition working inverter? does it work on another machine?

The lcd display, same with inverter? Has it been tested that its backlights work properly?

Then aslong as the small cable between mainboard and inverterboard is connected properly, it should work. But if it does not you have 3 possible causes.

1, Faulty display backlights
2, Faulty inverter board
3, bad cable / inserted wrong or motherboard is not providing the required electricity to the inverterboard.

My laptop screen is bright. Brightness control works but no picture. The picture is ok on external monitor. Sometimes a faint and incomplete picture appears on startup but disappears after a few seconds....

This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

No sound and no picture. Tried several power

Its Your lcd control board or inverter boards causing this problem. Either board(s) need to be replaced, if the LCD control board developes a fault condition it will cause the inverters to strobe which in turn causes the backlight lamps to flicker .... if the dc-to-dc converters on the inverter board or series resistors open up this will also cause the same affect.....

I have Toshiba 15" lcd tv with vestel 17ips01-2 psu/inverter board.the tv will show a picture for a couple of seconds and then the inverter cuts out.

There are a few things that can cause this fault, but the most common is the High Voltage Capacitors that feed the backlights going bad. The invertor and power supply are on the same board (Vestel 17IPS01-2)

The caps are on the power supply board and are C355 & C356 (12pf 3kv) and C354 (4.7pf 3kv). If you replace these caps it will solve the problem in 99% of cases.

If replacing these three caps do not solve the problem then it may be easier to replace the power supply board... as fixing means replacing a tiny surface mount chip with loads of legs.

WARNING: The Power Supply/Invertor board can contain LETHAL VOLTAGES even when turned off and unplugged. if you are not sure, Pay someone to do it for you!

Monitor turns off after two seconds

Your inverter board is bad. They run anywhere from $30 - $80. They are very easy to replace. I have had this problem with three monitors and replacing the inverter board fixed the problem. Hard to say where you will find the part. Just do a search for 'inverter board' with your model # on any search engine.
Good Luck!
