Have you try connect your pen drive to the same usb port, is it working?
If Pendrive is working but not the Seagate hardisk. Most propably is your USB power is not enough to support the External Seagate hard disk, you need to supply more power to the Seagate hard disk by using USB Y cable(1 end connect to Seagate hardisk where the other end got 2 USB connector to connect to your PC).

Externalseagate 250go not open how to solve

If you cannot open or see the harddrive when you connect it to your computer after it is powered on then that is the external harddrive itself. First, check if the power connection is connected and the usb cord connect correctly. Then see if any lights come on on the external hard drive. If lights does come on and still nothing showing or coming on to the computer, then your harddrive is history. Seagate makes one of the worstest hardrive. You can google this up about seagate promblem and there are thousand out there who have this same promblem. I know this because I have the same promblem you have.

New Seagate FreeAgentPro USB eSATA 500GB power on light not glows

Thank you for your reply.

I have solved the problem with local help.

Printed installation manual of Seagate 500 GB eSATA external hard drive has not properly mentioned how to use power on/off switch once connected to mains. I could get local help, who has already used the device. On/Off switch to be pressed for few seconds after mains connected, sometimes it comes automatically once power is on and USB cable pluged to the USB port of PC if power supply is ok. There is no indicator for the power supply (before device glows) after connected to the mains. I was in confusion whether power supply is ok or not.

Finally, It was found that the problem was with mains power supply and I have changed the power socket and adapter.

USP-porti doesn't find the external hard disk - occasionally

If it has been working and now does not not. If the system is ME or NTFS[XP /2000/VISTA] If the port check shows nothing untoward Then you must look to the the disc or its connection or power supply. So -if you can check out the power supply Is it self powered[internally of via a 'power brick'] or does it rely on USB power from the computer? If the latter- disable/unplug some other other USB devices. If it 'works on its own power' check that it is indeed running. Change the USB cable for another. Comeback if still in trouble

Maxtor External Harddrive

Seagte purchased Maxtor in 2006. They kept the group that supported these products intact. Check Seagate's support site for specific information and/or contact Seagate's support group. They should be able to help you. The website is: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/ As a last resort, you can get a free replacement from Seagate via their warranty repair group. They track via serial numbers, so no receipts should be needed.
