I tried the following: Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate. Make sure you have new cartiges in the printer so that it can reset.
This instruction resolved my Ink System Failure error message for my HP Phoptosmart 3210 All-In-One. Thanks for all the help!
1. Unplug the printer and wait 30 seconds for power to discharge. 2. Plug in the printer. 3. Hold the CANCEL and OK buttons simultaneously, and keep them depressed while you hit the ON button. This resets the printer. 4.
When the printer turns on, if you still get the error message, it's OK.
Then perform the steps listed above, starting with pressing the * and #
key. 5. After you perform the steps listed above, when you are at
the step at the end where you are pressing the cancel button until you
get to the WELCOME screen, if at some point you see a message,
“Improper shutdown, hit OK”, go ahead and hit OK and the Welcome screen
should appear.
HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps
Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right
click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.
Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color
buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the
buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You
will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate.
Make sure you have new cartiges in the printer so that it can reset.
Good Luck!

The error that you are having is a hardware issue, it means your printer has an Ink System Failure. Believe me, there's no use going through troubleshooting for this one. Call HP and just Upgrade your printer. HP Printer Tech Support would be more than happy in giving you discounts and an extra year of warranty for $1.00.
Go to http://www.ccl-la.com/blog and search for HP Photosmart. They have two protocols for clearing ink system failure errors. One resets the machine and the other re-primes ink through the lines.
- Press and hold the “*” key. B. - Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo” C. - Press and release in sequence the “1”, “2” and “3” buttons. 1.Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu”. (on C8100 use Touch Screen) 2.Press and release the “OK” button. 3.Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to “Hardware failure status”, 4.Press and release the “OK” button. 5.Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”. 6.Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”. 7.Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE. 8.Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet. 9.Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer 10.Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER” followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK. 11.If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page. 12.To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation. 13.If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.
1- Turn off power and unplug from power source. 2- Open right side of printer (looking at the front). 3- Disconnect,by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board. 4- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok". 5- Unplug power source. 6- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board. 7- Plug in power source and turn printer on.
HP Photosmart C7180 will not accept new '02' yellow ink cartridge and repeatedly states 'printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer health. The empty ink cartridge must be replaced to resume.' This is the 2nd HP '02'yellow I've bought and it continues to say the same.
Here is the exact sequence for the C7180. It worked great for me:
This is easily fixed with the following key sequences. You do NOT have to open the printer and unplug a circuit board.
1) press * and # at the same time
2) press 1, 2, 3 and “support R0632M” should display
3) press > and “information menu” should display
4) press > and “configuration menu” should display
5) press OK and “hardware failure status” should display
6) press OK “failure status: clear”. Press OK to clear
7) press CANCEL
8) press CANCEL
9) press CANCEL
10) turn printer off, unplug power cord for 2 minutes, plug cord back in then turn printer back on.
NOTE: I did this and the fist time the error came back. Do the sequence again (as I did) and the error will be replaced with the usual print cartridge initialization screens. Print a test page to make sure.
