HI senior citizen with limited computer skills, Have blue screen telling me I have been closed down because unmountable boot volume to prevent damage to pc but I am unable to carry out the instructions...

Possible causes:
1.The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.
2.You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
3.The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.

Solutions:
If it be the connector cable problem then replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.
If it's a BIOS settings problem then load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

If it's a damaged file system case then:-
1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

System starts window but jst aftr boot this error msg wthi blue screen halts every thing

The blue screen is BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death). this happens due to some technical problem in HDD or due to bad sectors in memory. Its time to change the HDD, backup important data and files before its too late.

It clicks alot when it's booting and i can't get it to turn all the way on. It says fixed disc parameter table or bios error system halted

It seems as if your hard drive has failed or is going to fail. When you hear a clicking noise like that with no CD in the system that is usually what the cause is.

Whe I turn the computer on i cant get to windows

The problem could be a number of things. First try and remove your memory stick one at a time and see if it boots up with out the blue screen. If not try using a windows disc and boot from cd you may have to change your bios settings to boot from cd first. You use the F2 key when you power up to enter the bios.

If you are using the cd select command promt and run chkdsk command to check if your hard drive has any errors. Also run a fixmbr and a fixboot they should replace the boot file.

If that dosnt work you might have to re-install windows.

Hope this helps. :)

Blue screen of death

Hi there
"Unmountable Boot Volume." means that the system 32 folder has become corrupt and probably you will have to recover the system.
If you have XP CD for a clean install, you have to change the boot order from within the bios (F2 on boot up) and tell it to boot from CD.
This will change the boot order and allow you to reinstall the OS.
Be warned that you WILL loose data if this is the only option open to you.

Good luck

Boot from CD does not work.

You should definately be given the choice to boot from cd, when you press F2 to get into the bios and go to boot options, what boot options do you have?

If you go into the bios you should have the choice to boot from ide (hard drive), cdrom, floppy disk, network (on some) and try other boot media.

Are you going into the boot option in the bios by pressing F2.

Compaq armada m700 wont boot up

most of this kind of problem are located in a corrupt file or a bad sector on the hard drive that checkdisk won't repair you got two option to try. one make a backup of you files and reinstall the Operating sistem or try to fix the surface of the hard drive with an utility call "HDD regenerator" in the 70% of the cases I had it fix the problem specially in older notebooks whitout the need of reintall the OS. you will try and may be this fix your problem. (tihis utility comes in a disk called "Hiren"s" boot cd.)

M700 not booting

Borrow a cd from someone with the same version of windows as you have. For example xp pro or vista. Boot from the cd as go along as if you were going to reinstall. If XP select enter, esc, f8, then r. Those are the answers to the screen questions. In vista boot up the cd then select repair reinstall. It will remove windows files and leave everything else in contact then it will reinstall windows without harming programs or files. It kind of rebuilds itself.

Compaq Armada M700 - failure to boot from CD

Hello Blessie,
This is Romeet,i shall try and help you with this problem. Before formatting for a new installation of w2k, did you delete your partitions and create a new partition or did you just overwrite the old installation partition?Besides i hope you did a backup of your data before any of above processes in the event you might need it later on? Please let me know about the partitioning and i shall try and help further accordingly as most likely it looks like a Disk Partitioning Misconfiguration / Problem
