I have had this problem for a while, and I solved it by learning exactly how to search the HP driver listings correctly. The issue stems from the fact that searching for "HP Pavilion dv1000" is not as specific as you might think...
Step one:
Go
Herehttp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&dest_page=product&docname=c00033108&product=18073
Find the *EXACT* model number of your laptop. For instance, it turns out my "HP Pavilion dv1000" is actually a "dv1657cl." Alternately, you can take down the Product Number (or p/n).
Step two:
Go
Herehttp://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
I am sure we are all familiar with this page, but you will find that it is a little more helpful now that we are armed with the knowledge that it requires. Search on this page with your model number or p/n and you should find the correct drivers (for audio as well as other devices) easily.
For example, I finally found
this page for my "dv1657cl."
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=2511500
Good luck, everyone!

Sorry, as fixya.com is still pretty new to me, I don't know that this message will get to you, fidoliedo. Yes, I need all of the drivers for it.
Of course, the ones available for download from the HP site did not work, so if you have drivers other than the ones from their main driver's page, I'll gladly take all for that model that you might be able to send.
I really appreciate the help.
