Is there a holding bracket on the washing machine? I have removed the lid and can see a concrete block but would not be able to remove it. I have bought the machine in Spain and have no instruction manual.

The concrete blocks are vibration dampers and must remain on the machine or it will go flying all over the house. Some machines come with restraining brackets fitted for transportation and these have to be removed before use. If the drum of the machine is relatively free on its suspension it means that the brackets have been removed already, if not, then look for brackets attaching the bottom of the drum to the frame of the machine.

My Kenmore 20902 washing machine lid is rusted. I...

Hello, Guest who?

Getting the lid off of your Kenmore is simple. Raise the lid. At the bottom on each side are a pair of screws that go through the lid and attach to a reinforcing bracket on the inside. Take these screws out, remove the bracket, do the same for the other side. A small bowl or ziplock will keep these small bits from getting away. When you have repainted or replaced the lid, insert the bracket with the loop down, and insert the screws from the outside through the lid.

Done!

Whirlpool washer not spining clothes

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the washer isn't spinning then it might be due to a Lid switch or due to a bad motor coupler. You can check for the lid switch & replace it--

First unplug the washing machine. Then remove the two screws that hold the top console in place; these are located in back of the main console (where the dials are). Once removed, the entire console swivels back, exposing the wires underneath.

After this unplug the wiring harness that is connected to the washing machine top flat surface. Now remove the two s-shaped brackets with a screwdriver by prying underneath. This will allow you to remove the main sheet metal frame around the washing machine. The lid switch assembly is located under the top console. Now, remove it and replace with the new assembly and put it back together.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Wf860 about to explode!

there is no magic to the counterweight supports. if they are damaged, you will have to replace the tub and it is not a worthwhile repair. it is quite a common problem

Problem washer will not wash or spin

If the drum does not turn by itself then there are two things which could be wrong.
1. the belt which drives the drum is broken or come off.
2. the motors brushes which wear down now need replacing.

REMEMBER TO UNPLUG BEFORE STARTING ANYTHING!

To do the belt...about half an hour...
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. check you've unplugged.
3. Open the top of the machine - see the sides of the lid about 10 cm from front, remove plastic caps on each torx head, undo torx. (torx set required)
4. Remove concrete block from top - large spanner is required - remember the sequence so you can replace later.
5. Lean over the drum and see the large drive wheel.
If you see a broken belt then remove it and re-order one from hotpoint...see http://www.4hotpoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=634224&brand=&model=wma40&part=belt.

6. to replace belt - see motor shaft at bottom of unit. Dangle new belt round shaft of motor and gently pull so it does not come off motor.(This is not easy!)
7. At the same time Ease one side of the new belt back on to drive wheel on the back of the drum.
8. Turn Drive wheel until belt is on.(This is not easy and requires alot of hand strength)
9. Replace concrete block with bolt and spanner in reverse sequence you removed it.
10. replace lid, torx and cover for torx.

To do the brushes - about half an hour...
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. check you've unplugged.
3. Tip the machine carefully up so you can get to the underside
4. Pull cables off the existing brushes.
5. Remove the brushes with a cross head screwdriver. Each brush as two screws holding in on, but the brushes are keyed into the motor chassis. They are fiddly.

Just leave that concrete block there, it is to prevent your tub from taking off skywards.

Confirm you've removed the transit bracket that ties the drum assembly to the outer casing in new machines.

Also (honest, I have seen this done, albeit only once!), confirm you haven't accidentally removed the concrete ballast weights from the inside of the machine while trying to get the transit bracket off.

Transit brackets

Hiya .. the transit bolts are located under the lid at either side ..or at the rear... they are fairly long bolts which hold the drum and balance in place.. until installation. they will be sheathed in fairly hefty rubber grommets.

Screws for removal of lid located at the rear..2- or 4.. remove these slide lid front to back.. remove bolts if they are they are present... refit lid... note uneven siting of an appliance can cause excessive vibration as well!

Let me know if this sorts your prob

You should be able to do both without disturbing the motor.

To do the belt. + as long as your patience lasts...
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. check you've unplugged.
3. Open the top of the machine - see the sides of the lid about 10 cm from front, remove plastic cap on each torx head, undo torx. (torx set required)
4. Remove concrete block from top - large spanner is required - remember the sequence so you can replace later.
5. Lean over the drum and see the large drive wheel. To pop the belt off, turn the wheel forcing the belt to the edge of the wheel. It will eventually come off.
6. to replace belt - see motor shaft at bottom of unit. Dangle belt round shaft of motor and gently pull so it does not come off.(This is not easy!)
