Compaq V2000 notebook freezing

My copmaq presario V2000 notebook freezes everytime I try to plug something into any of the 3 USB ports. I also have a port for putting SD, MS/Pro, MMC,SM, XD cards or sticks in and it works fine. Any suggestions on what to do? or how to check in BIOS to see if the USB's are enabled?

I have the same problem. I have upgraded the memory to 1GB and after getting a POST test error message (unrelated) I got a 120Gb HDD and gave her a new image, AND it still freezes up.

I have no clue what is the issue, I've heard the following educated "guesses" though:

    *bad motherboard
    *bad memory
*poor design for ventilation on this model laptop

The BIOS on this particular model (with an AMD Turion) is extremely sparse. I can't even configure the USB ports and it has very few options on what to configure.

    Thanks!

You dont have much memory for your notepad. you must have at least 20% to do anything like that.

to check to see if you have at least 20% you need to do a disk defrag and than that should help.

Freeze after boot up

hmm... given that it boots up fine into safe mode, i think there's a strong possibility that the problem is virus or spyware related.

i would see if you can run a virus scan with some good programs, check your startup processes to see if you find anything out of the ordinary, etc.

if you do find something or also think its a virus, reloading windows will always take care of that, and definitely speed up your system.

hope this helps

Computer wont start-up

Hi,
If I get you right, after you plug the xternal drive to transfer some file, the system didn't come up. Right?
Well, let me assume yes. If that is the case, I will advise you to boot the system from an external disk and use it to scan the local hard disk for virus. After that, remove the x-hard disk and try to boot the system. If it doesn't work, then transfer all the files to the xternal hard disk and format the local hard disk for new use. Best of luck.

Compaq V2000 freezing

Please select F1 to boot the Notebook into windows. If it is not booting then please try to boot the Notebook into safemode.

Restart the Notebook and keep pressing F8 key the select Safe mode to boot. If the issue persists in Safe mode. To isolate whether the issue is with the software or hardware. Please restore the Notebook to factory settings. Before restoring the Notebook backup your data.

If you are unable to restore, I am afraid that you need to take the Notebook for repair.

Thanks

USB Ports crashing system

If you have done a system restore you have probably restored your problem with limewire also, although what it is that's related I don't know, it's more than likely a dial up or connection problem that is causing limewire to freeze yur system. Check your usb ports in device manager see if there is an exclamation mark or a cross, then refer to this solution for further checks. http://www.fixya.com/support/t125452-another_device_installation_underway
