You should be able to charge the battery using a usb cable from your computer. see photo for type of usb cable you need. this cable should have come with the camera.

Some
phones charge the battery in the camera like a phone, but many do not.
This camera has a USB connection, which is meant to be used to transfer photos from the
camera to a computer. If your (now lost) charger was plugged into the
camera to charge it, and it plugged into the USB connector, then you can
charge the camera with any lead that will fit the USB connector, as
this will have a standard voltage. You can even charge it from the
computer, without buying a separate charger.
However, if your
charger charged the batteries outside the phone, by removing them from
the phone and placing them in the charger, then it is very unlikely that
they will charge in the phone, whatever you connect to it. I have a
camera just like this, that requires an external charger.
it will not charge with a USB cable the company that made them went out of business. therefore there is no support or chance to get parts i went to a ebay store called suntek and bought a charger, 2 batteries for less than $7 and they all work just go to the suntek store and look for a np 60 type charger. this is the battery type and it will work.
Called support and they told me, the motorola charger is good only if you don't let the battery fully discharge . Once fully discharged it will not recognize the charger, don't let the battery icon flash or turn red, and you should have no problem.
Well.. I have to plug in the charger that came with the dv-179. If I use my Phone (motorola usb) charger, or a USB cable (into the computer or a hub), all it does is light up the back red light (and not the front 'self timer' led) and does not charge the camera. So remember, if the back led lights up, you've got the wrong charger!
The AC adapter for the battery charger shoud work from 110V-240V with auto detection for voltage. Look at the marking on the AC adapter and the input voltage should show 110V-240V. Once you verify this, the charger will work on 220V and you will only need the outlet adapter.
