The printwheel determines what the pitch is on the wheelwriters. A 10 pitch printwheel will only print in 10 pitch and a 12 pitch printwheel will only print in 12 pitch. Same with a 15 pitch or a PS (proportional spacing) printwheel.
I could be wrong but i believe it is code 4or 5 to change the pitch. Go to brother.com, click on support, poke around in there and you will find a manual.
hold down "code" key and press 6 for 10 pitch. "code" key and press 7 for 12 pitch. "code" key and press 8 for 15 pitch. to change type size or style you have to replace the daisy wheel.
Since you are not exactly sure what model Smith Corona you have I can only guess at the trouble you are having. Look on the left side of your keyboard for a slide level for the 10, 12 and 15 pitch selection. If it is in 15 pitch select either 10 or 12 pitch. Or, "If" one of your key tops have the word, "pitch" on it you might need to hold down the code key and the key that has the word, pitch on it.
Joany, look for a function, usually on the left side of the keyboard on the IBM,that has the markings 10,12 and 15. And if my memory is correct, there will be a series of lamps which light up at the selected pitch. I would look for a key marked "pitch" and press that. Good luck.
