Go to the command line and type ifconfig

find the network adapter you are trying to connect with likely eth0 or eth1 if ethernet or wlan0 for wifi

then type

dhclient wlan0 (or whatever adapter you're using.)

if this doesn't give you an ip address, the virgin internet access point may not play nice with linux.

My Dell XPS doesn't connect properly to my Netgear DGN1000SP router

It my be the amount of devices connected? Try shutting down all but one, the laptop. It's possible you have a defective wireless device? If you connect the Laptop via a Ethernet Cable does it connect and work well? Turn off every thing, unplug remove battery from everything. install battery in the ISP modem , if applicable, plug in, allow self test, plug in Netgear, allow self test, plug in Laptop only, connect to wireless, enter security key. post results. Have you done any firmware upgrades on the Netgear? Does this apply to your device: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18898/~/dgn1000-firmware-version-1.1.00.41-(for-worldwide-users-only)

Using a Acer Aspire Revo. Running with linux Unbuntu 10.4lts. I have a BTHomeHub trying to connect my NWD-270N Wireless N-lite USB Adapter however it picked up the Hub and established a connection...

Select from the computers default internet networks, Recent computers are wireless enabled as the prefered networking. Attempting to introduce another network would share the connection capacity to any availabe signals. decide on the network type required. Pick wireless and disable the remaining networks to achieve an express signal reception and transmition.

you are seeing it strongly connected to the ROUTER---try unplugging the router for a few minutes and plug it back in----Does the netbook "SEE" the network? entered correct ssid? Is the wireless switch enabled on the netbook?

Acer can't connect to wireless network

Given the Acer sees the network, the times I have been frustrated connecting a new computer to a wireless network, it's usually been something very simple. I have forgotten one setting, transposed a letter or number. Go back through and make sure everything is exactly right.

The network center in my acer netbook does not seem to function. My wireless switches on and off and the lights on the ethernet port work however i cannot connect as the connection manager is not available

Hi,

This is a common problem with Linux Lumpus OS and is apparently caused by an update.

Right click on the desktop and then scroll down to Network, then gftp.
On the left hand pane, click on the .gconf folder - system- networking- connections. delete all instances of network(folder 1,2 &3) and then restart.

Once restarted the network should reconfigure itself and allow you to grt on the net and open the network center.

Regards.

Can't get Acer Aspire One on my house wireless net to share files

Make sure the firewall software on the acer allows the wireless connections, try turning the firewall off for a moment and also disable the wired connection.

Make sure the network is safe or allowed most likely firewall blocking.

My acer one aspire

I use linux on my Aspire one but not Linpus Lite There is a known problem with the acer one switch. so you may want to try blacklisting the acer_wmi module and you mey have to change your wireless driver. try running NetworkManager in shell and see if it will give you any errors. My wifes Netbook has a similar problem She has the same linux i do. As far as getting NetworkManager to start automatically i'm not sure you may have to add it to startup applications but again i'm not sure about linpus and how it looks.

All internet connections failed with Acer Aspire One with Linux

Atheros AR5007EG adapter only WEP compatible. Wireless networks using WPA(2), or anything else won't work. If network is unsecured, it should connect.
