Go to Radio Shack an buy a power adapter that provides output of 12Vdc at 2A. They have some models with adaptaplug tips. get the one that matches yours and be sure to plug the tip in so that the tip is positive (+) and the outer sheath is negative(-).

This model can be set to 12V and output 2.5A.
I'm not an electrician, but I do know that as long as the voltage matches EXACTLY (don't take the chance, most devices don't have a good resistor, or don't have one at all!), the current doesn't matter. I'll explain myself: A consumer device (your scanner in this case) uses all the current it needed, and it practically doesn't need more! It take just what's necessary! Connecting adapter which provide LESS is not enough, but more - isn't harmful!
I am pretty sure it also came with a 12V cord for car use. That's means you can use a universal one with 120v input (USA) and 9.4V 400 ma. or a little bit higher (like 1 amp or so ) for your output.Look where the plug gets into your unit and make sure the polarity is the same.
