My epson stylus DX 5000 prints out with half the lines of the document missing. It's OK for a couple of lines, then odd single lines and half line are missing. I't has full ink cartridges and ve tried the clean button a few times but nothing seems to fix the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks MC

Follow these steps to print a nozzle check:

1. Turn off the Epson Stylus dX.
   
2. Disconnect any connected USB cables.
   
3. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder

Hold down the Stop button as you press the On button to turn the Epson Stylus CX back on. Hold down both buttons until the On light begins to flash, then release the buttons.Tell me the result-->Nozzle check pattern with no gaps or with gaps?

You need to run the the setup software that came with the printer to line it up correctly, or the in cartage needs change.

Needs a new printing ribbon.

realigning your new ink... thats all... or clean the heads...

Your printer cogs may be damaged or your paper rollers could be slipping resulting in this "odd" output.

Paper rollers can be cleaned with an appropriate cleaning kit but if the cogs are damaged it's not worth repairing.

If you do a nozzle check...do a cleaning...then do another nozzle check, you can "read" the patterns to see exactly what the problem may be. If the first nozzle check is missing half, then you do the cleaning, and the second is missing half also, check the pattern of the box to see if the missing nozzles are jumping around. If the pattern is exactly the same, you have clogs. If the pattern jumps around, you are having ink starvation issues, and may need dampers.
