I just bought a panasonic TC-L42U25 tv and a panasonic SA-BT230 home theater system. I hooked them both up this evening, but after several hours of tinkering, i am still unable to watch tv using the BT230's speakers for the audio. This being one of the major reasons i bought the system, i would really appreciate knowing how to sync up the 2 so that i may enjoy great sound along with the awesome picture. Any suggestions or solutions would be fantastic. Thank you. JtW

The menu screen on my tv does not match the one shown in the picture you attached. i cannot find the option to switch my audio source to theater. please help

the menu shown above and the menu provided on my tb are not the same. i have hooked up the optical cable exactly how you described but do not know where to go from there...

any assistance on how to hear tv audio through my home theater system would be greatly appreciated. i've already got all connections made with an optical cable, i just do not know how to set my tv to send its audio in the right direction....

  • jeremytwise Mar 02, 2011

ok i have found the correct menu as shown above and have set everything up the way shown. still, i have no sound. what should i do next?

  • jeremytwise Mar 02, 2011

thanks but as far as my problem goes that didnt help me. i consider myself to be relatively tech savvy... so for me to be posting a problem on the internet, it means that its probably not a simple fix. i have everything connected properly, and as far as i can tell, i have all the settings( on both, the tv and home theater system) set up for success. i just cant seem to get tv audio to come out of these speakers. what i need is step by step instructions (from the very beginning) on how to set everything up on both(tv and home theater) so that i can check and make sure that everything ive done is correct, and if not, where i might have made an error.

Hello Jeremy,

An important question has not been asked or answered - what is the audio source for the TV?

This is the essential factor. The correct setup and therefore the correct answer to your question will be determined by whether you are using an antenna, a direct cable line from the street to your TV or a cable box. Please let me know which of these you are using and I will be able to answer your question. If you are using a cable box (or satellite receiver), I also need to know how this is connected to the TV.

Thanks,
BElectric.

Knowing how difficult some of these systems can get here is a very simple tip that I wrote and have had a lot of success with getting folks up and running with good quality sound.

Home Theater / Surround Sound Receiver simple Connection.
Check it out and I got a feeling you'll be up and running in no time.

Hi,
To get tv program sound in SA-BT230 speakers, please plug Optical Cable between two units. TV has Digital Audio Out port at rear, plug optical cable there and connect it to Digital-1 input at rear of SA-BT230 and select Source as Digital 1 through remote or front button on unit and select Theater in default speaker settings in Settings menu in tv to get tv program sound in SA-BT230 home theater system. Please check below image of tv menu (marked with yellow) about selecting default Speaker settings.
Required Optical Cable would be available in nearest Store or click Amazon.com for online order.
Hope these info will help.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

If optical digital input wont work to get tv sound, connect RCA audio cable in Audio Out jacks at rear of tv and AUX jacks of home theater and select AUX as source in home theater, it calls analog audio setup to have tv sound in external speakers. Please change Default Speakers setting accordingly in tv menu.
    Thanks.

I hooked up the Panasonic sa-ht800V Home Theater Audio System SA-HT800V to an old tv the only hook up is the coaxial cable i turned TV to channel 3 and i get picture from the dvd is the a setting a need to...

Look at Page 12 if your TV only has RF coaxial antenna input...

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Panasonic-SA-HT800-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/312bh741/t/2/

Add in the Video cable (included) if the TV has an input for it and you'll be able to manage the SA-HT800 through the TV.

Make all the other necessary selections prescribed in the manual.

I am having trouble connecting my Panasonte SC-BT230 to my cable box and my TV. Do i connect my cable box to SC-Bt230 than to my TV or my SC-BT230 to cable box than to TV

Hello,
Here are a few ways to go about this.
connect the cable box hdmi (if Capable) to the panasonic hdmi input. Then connect panasonic hdmi out to tv hdmi in. The easy thing about this setup is that you only need the two hdmi cables because they carry both audio and video.

If your cable box or tv are not hdmi compatible, Then connect video output from cable box directly to your tv, and send an audio feed from your cable box to the panasonic.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck
