I am connecting a 1000w Cobra Power inverter to a deep cycle marine battery that will be used to run small appliances while camping. How do I properly connect the inline circut breaker for maximum safety?

The breaker goes in in series.

So, that means (for example) you remove the hot wire to the unit, from the positive battery power source, and hook this wire to one side of the breaker, then connect the other terminal to the positive battery power source.

This will stop current flow if anything over 40 amps happens on the line.

You actually can hook the breaker anywere along the circuit, but the closer to the power source, the better you are protected.

Is a deep cycle battery the same as an RV/marine battery?

Deep cycle is typically for long duration loads like lights or a troling motor but not very high starting currents. Unless marked, an RV battery is a combination starting running battery. It may have a higher starting current than the deep cycle, but not as long of a run time.

Is century PS12120L deep cycle? Can it be fully discharged frequently?

all the jump starts i have seen have a deep cycle battery that is sealed - i would not run something like an air compressor motor with low voltage - it can be discharged almost flat , but do not leave it long before charging back up - low voltage =high amps on motors

Hi. I plugged a 600w oven grill and a kettle which is 110w into a 1000w Ring power 1024 inverter 24v-240. And now it dont seem to work. The inverter is wired straight to the battery.

Does it work if you plug in just your smallest appliance 110W?. How about just your 600W appliance What size wire are you using to supply power to the inverter? The inverter will draw about 30 amps from the battery with your load. You need to use wires as large as a number 8 from the battery to the inverter. The length should be as short as possible but could be 20 ft away. My inverter is a 2000 Watt continous and I use welding cable size 0 at about 3ft max between the battery and the inverter.

General inverter question. Running off of a car battery do I keep the car running or just juice the battery every now and then to keep the battery from dying:

Automotive batteries are designed for a quick draw of amperage (when starting) and then get constantly recharged using the alternator when driving. If you are using an auto battery for inversion, it will drain much quicker. Depending on how/where you are using it, you could charge the battery when a meter shows a voltage drop. Better recommendation would be to use a marine battery, which is a deep cycle battery. Deep cycle batteries last much longer between charges, as they are designed to have a constant draw (trolling motors, etc.).

My Coleman Powermate 2000w inverter gives an error tone when I try to run a 600w space heater. I've tried two different deep cycle batteries...one new, and even tried them in parallel. The connection...

Hi
Assuming there is nothing wrong with the inverter or heater.
You need to check the voltage on the input clamps of the inverter (+ & - connections on the back of the inverter) when going under load, if the voltage is going under 12 volts as it is applying power to the heater there is a connection or volt drop issue.
The inverter is capable of drawing up to 190amps from the battery this can cause damage to the battery.
It is very rare for an inverter of this size to be used on 12 volts.
There are a long list of calculations which I am not going to bore you with, but for this inverter to run on a 12 volt battery system and not cause unesesary damage to the batteries you would need 8 x 120AH deep cycle batteries.

I have a 1000 Watt Inverter, along with a regular car battery when the electricity goes out; Question: Can I use the 1000 Watt inverter and connect a 100 amp, deep cycle battery? I use regular house...

Yes, just be sure connections are heavy enough wire, and obviously the inverter uses 12 vdc input. Hook jumper wires positive to positive, negative to negative, on all 12 volt batteries. Deep cycle batteries will work better than car batteries. Just remember, when re-charging them, that they last longer when charged slowly, so don't use a high amp setting on charger and to monitor them closely, and do it in a well ventilated area, away from any ignition sources.

Hi, i've got a skytronic 300w soft start inverter making loud beep and then cutting out. I know its one of the safety cut outs but not which one. can it be repaired ? thanks

If your appliance draws over 300W or if your 12 v battery charge is low you will get a loud beep warning. Do you get the same beep with a low current appliance like a lamp? Make sure your battery has a good charge.

Some appliances have huge draw at start up even though they are rated under 300w your inverter may not be able to start.

Also some electric motors don't like modified sign wave inverters.
What are you trying to run and what is its rated watts?

I had my inverter beep when I had it connected via a cigarette lighter plug but when I used a connection straight to the battery it worked fine.
I was running a 500w grinder on a 1000w el cheepo inverter.

Tech Question

Automotive batteries are usually adequate for small inverters, (< 500 Watts). When used in a car, we suggest you run the vehicle of your engine occasionally while operating your inverter. If you use the inverter while the engine is off, you should start the engine regularly and let it run to charge the battery. Deep Cycle (marine) batteries are best for larger inverters as they are designed for several hundred charge/discharge cycles. (Automotive batteries wear out much more quickly after heavy discharge).
