Do not have full 64 point convergence control on the green crt. Most all ofrt of the picture is in convergence but the top first two lines are bowed and the middle bottom line is arced in the center. This is green crt only. Possible convergence generator problem on the signal board not the output ics. Can someone confirm my findings.

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

I have a Sony KDP-57WS550 TV that has a convergence problem. Based on the symptoms, I'm not sure whether to indict the convergence ICs. In the convergence mode, I can move the red (and blue) crosses,...

With your TV in setup Use a small magnet to "move" the non converged Red, Blue, or, Green color lines "crosses" (each CRT will need to be adjusted in turn) by moving the magnet close to the offending Red, Blue or,Green color CRT yoke or, tube while observing the movement of the CRT color line "cross" in a mirror ( try several places near the tube and, several strengths of magnets:) a refrigerator sheet magnet works well (you can cut these with a scissors to make a better fit or, apply less magnetic "pull." by making them smaller (you may need more than one magnet per tube to fix each CRT's convergence) When you have each CRT tube's convergence right, apply some clear silicone adhesive to the magnet and, permanently affix the magnet to the now "fixed" CRT tube exactly where you placed the magnet to obtain the best convergence on the CRT.
(Do not adjust the "Green" CRT unless you must, as it is used as the color line to adjust other lines to)

Do not get convergence control of all 64 points for the green crt. I think it maybe the convergence generator on the board vs. the output IC's.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

Hello

red, green, and blue lines curve across the top of tv is cause by defective convergence STK IC or you have open resistor at convergence section. if you have defective RGB Color vertical ramp probably you have defective STK IC..

Rcs hdtv multiple images

The problem you're having is due to the failure of the convergence amplifier circuit. In that circuit are some components which amplify or control the signals to the dynamic convergence yokes, which line up the red green and blue images to superimpose them over each other to create a proper colour picture. When you get a failure in that circuit, it no longer aligns the images properly, and generally you get what appears to be badly set geometry in multiple colours. In some cases you will also get a problem with the part of the power supply that supplies the convergence amplifiers, or the digicon, which is the digital convergence control module.

I have 46ux13k hitachi tv and i need to know if there is atrick to adjusting the convergence.

Manual Convergence for the Hitachi. YOU WILL NEED ORIGINAL HITACHI REMOTE. NONE ELSE WILL DO
1. Receive an NTSC signal.
2. Press Magic Focus to begin magic focus
3. Press magic focus again during the magic focus process to get the “stop” screen.
4. While stop screen is up, press STATUS or INFO on the remote control (R/C) to bring you to DCAM mode and the service grid (64 point grid).
5. When you first get in here? I believe red is the selected color by default (it is flashing).
6. To choose other colors to converge, use the following buttons on the R/C:
· “STATUS” - Green
· “0” - Red
· “ANT” – Blue

ONE COLOR WILL NOT MOVE. YOU WILL NEED TO MOVE OTHER COLORS TO ALIGN TO IT.
7. Start from the center of the screen and work your way out on one color at a time. I adjusted red across the whole screen to match green. Then I switched to blue, and adjusted that to green as well. After you adjust blue, you
may want to go back and adjust some red again? etc. until the convergence looks good.

· Use 4, 6, 2, and 5 on the R/C to move the cursor position (dotted lines).
· Use thumb stick to move the convergence point color.

Then going along the lines and adjusting, you may run into the problem of getting an ‘S’ curve on the line. You’ll know if you get there. Basically, no matter what you do to adjust the line to be converged, the middle of the line between the points will not straighten out (it bends between the points). To fix this, the manual recommends going to the (7x5) mode which gives you less points to adjust. I had this problem, and the solution worked. There is also another mode (3x3) which gives you even less points. Basically, if the set looks good, you only fine tune it in (13x9) mode (64 point). If you have serious problems, the grids work as:
3x3 – ‘coarse’
7x5 – ‘medium’
13x9 – ‘fine’
10) To get to each of these patterns use the following on the R/C: (only if you need to)
1. (3x3) Press “STATUS” 5 times (only works when DCU is in uncorrected state)
2. (7x5) Press “0” 5 times
3. (13x9) Press “ANT” 5 times
11) If you adjust the 3x3, then you should go to the 7x5, and then the 13x9. You get the point… depending on where you start, work your way up, and always finish on the 13x9
12) When finishing up the 13x9 mode, to get additional ‘grids’ on the edges of the screen, press the PIP CH button on the remote control while in the digital convergence adjustment mode (DCAM). Fine tune the edge convergence as necessary. To exit, press PIP CH again.
13) When convergence is acceptable, press PIP MODE to write data to ROM memory. ROM WRITE? is displayed to alarm system that ROM will be overwritten with new data. Press the PIP MODE button again to write displayed data to ROM.
14) DATA WRITE TO ROM will take approximately 4 seconds and no picture will be displayed.
15) Green dots will be displayed when operation is completed.
16) Press MUTE to return to convergence pattern, then confirm again convergence is acceptable.
17) Turn power OFF.
18) Wait a few seconds. Turn the TV on, and you should have your normal signal. Press Magic Focus button just to make sure the magic focus still works (and that you did the last few steps properly)

Philips Blue Shadowing

If you have not already done so go into the picture menu and set the convergence. The convergence is the angle at which the three picture tubes meat at a given distance. The tv will have at least 3 and up to 64 convergence points, and those 64 can be set for all three colors. This can be tiresome but I'll be it will solve your problem. What your trying to do is get the color in the cross-hair so you cannot see the color behind the target. On top of the fine setting for each point and color you will probably have 3 gross adujustments for blue and green and maybe red. These adjustments will affect positioning, like what you are discribing. You should do this at least every month, the thermal cycleing of the lamps is what will cause this to creep out of adjustment.
