I have a kinderkraft crib with drop down side. I believe it was purchased in 2004. Is this crib safe? Is there a way to attach the drop down panel to the rest of the crib so that it does not drop down?

I have a Kinderkraft Crib where do I purchase the screws/bolts to put this cribe together

Hi Pamela:
There seems to be quite a lot of enquiries about getting screw & bolts to assembe cribs, and a problem in getting support from manufacturers and retailers.
I would recomment that if it is within your ability, borrow a friend with some "do-it yourself" know how, and determine what you will need, then visit your local hardware store, buy the bits, and have a project.
It appears that there have been problems and recalls with "drop side" cribs so I'd not even consider using one with that component.
Hope this helps

I have a drop side Kinderkraft crib that is approximately 7 years old. I would like to use this crib again. Is there a crib kit that I can obtain in order to keep the railing up permanently?

The simple answer is, no.

Kinderkraft is out of business. The company had multiple problems with lawsuits and recalls. Subsequently, Kinderkraft changed it's name in 2002 to "Baby Furniture Importers, Inc." but still went through Voluntary Dissolution during the same year.

There are no official recalls on the CPSC Crib Information Center website; however, I would, in the best interest of your child, toss the crib in the trash bin and get yourself a new one! Almost all drop side cribs have been recalled and the manufacturers have been responsible for making crib specific kits. The cribs whose manufacturers have gone out of business are sometimes able to be returned for store credit; however, in your situation with a crib that is over 9 years old (as far as being made, since the company has been gone since 2002), I would toss it!

Since the massive recalls, cribs have been redone and you can get a great and attractive crib for as little as $150 delivered to your door for free from Amazon.

mkd123.jpg Anyway, I have done a whole lot of research on the crib recalls and even though there was no official recall of Kinderkraft cribs, they are out of business and the word on the street is that they are unsafe. I figure that's enough!

Lost the hardware to reassemble the crib - what do I need?

Products America supplies all replacement hardware for Kinderkraft cribs, including the Vermont model. This model uses moving side hardware as well as a series of fasteners to attach the non- moving side and mattress support to the head and footboard of the crib. We also have the original assembly instructions available with parts list for you to determine exactly which parts may be missing. Please call us at 800.205.9642 or 800.772.1041 from 8am to 6pm Central Time M-F for direct asisstance or email [email protected] to request the assembly instructions.

Here is the 800 number for kinderkraft. They have a website but it doesn't appear to be working. 1-800-822-6748

Kinderkraft crib model 710

On the bottom of the front rail that drops (the drop rail), there are two plastic tension pieces (one at either end) that engage the two fixed, bottom rail slider hardware (the long, narrow pieces screwed top-and-bottom into the lower, inside portion of the tall, upright crib ends). These tension pieces are spring loaded, and the outer edge of each one rides along the outside (i.e., the parent's side) of the two bottom metal rail guides. Their purpose is to supply outward pressure against the lower part of the drop rail - that's what you push against when you press your lower leg upon the bottom of the drop side of the crib to lower it. They insure that when up, the drop side locks safely into place. I suspect these tension pieces are your problem. It sounds like they are improperly installed. Good luck.

You just take the drop down side off and put the mattress at the lowest setting. We have the same crib and used it for a few months as a toddler bed.

had the same problem. Their site seems to be hijacked by someone else. But you can use this site: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php which keeps a copy of old pages on the internet. For me, clicking on the January 2006 link on this page: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://kinderkraft.com worked. Good luck!
