SD1100 got wet,now LCD sceen is completely black when power is on, it is not working, how much to get fixedor new one is cheaper than get fixed?

If you can't see menus or playback pictures then your LCD screen is cracked or damaged in some way and needs to be replaced. A new LCD, installation and return shipping of the camera is $75 total.

This is a common problem when the actual LCD display makes poor contact with the circuit board. Happens a lot when the phones get wet. The fix is to disassemble the phone and remove the LCD display and check for and clean any problems on the contact ribbon. Usually a job for a well trained service tech. It would be cheaper to toss the phone and get a new one.

If you have recently connected a second monitor, and have since disconnected the second screen, the primary screen will be completely black. Restart your computer and this should fix it. If it continues, your screen may have over-heated, in which case it needs complete replacement, or it may need to cool down.

If you have an LCD screen, check the power cable connections on the back of your sceen making sure they are connecting properly. If all is connected and you have tried to restart - your screen will need to be replaced.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). possibly the cause is the LCD itself but sometimes the LCD ICs could cause it also so you have to change the LCD with working one to check if it’s working that’s fine you need new LCD if not you have to replace the LCD ICs (go to service center)

Stefieanne, The long, thin, "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" are not staying lit anymore. Unit's "switch-mode-power-supply/CCFL inverter supply will need REFURBISHMENT to restore proper operation. If the system still works on an external monitor and functions normally otherwise, you might be able teo replace the LCD assy for about $150.

If the system no longer works on external either, then I'd say the system is no longer viable as an item to repair as it will be cheaper to replace it then to repair it. (New laptops start at around $500)

I tried all the solutions offered on the net and none worked except one. It simply said "hit the camera with the palm of your hand" (when it is on) and the screen will return. I thought, well I have nothing to lose and so I hit it on the side and sure enough the LCD is again working !!! Contacted Canon prior to this and they had no idea but suggested I send it in to be repaired at a cose of $163.50 Australian. Pleasant staff they have, but no help in solving what looks like a common problem of Canon cameras. I will have second thoughts purchasing Canon from here on in.
