You car is equipped with a pass key system, this year is most likely a pass key 2, but there is a small chance it is a pass key one, the pass key one has a pellet in the key ( a little black square in the shank of the key ) the pass key 2 has a resistor in in the ignition tumbler assembly ( that is the the key lock but it is called a key and tumbler assembly ) what is happening is the security system is not recognizing your key all the time in either case you will most likely have to replace the key and tumbler assembly, in order to do this you will need to have the system tested to know what the residence value is so you can get the proper key and tumbler set.

Have the same problem. My car won't start at all. Theft sys light is on solid cranks but will not turn on at all. I tried to reset by turning key in the on position and waiting ten minutes. Nothing. I want to take it to gm. Does anyone know what kind of money I'm gonna be spending. Ball park figure.

SOURCE: car doesnt start immeditately. security light

it is detecting a problem....could be a dirty key or bad chip in the key....try this.....set the alarm by locking the door using the power lock switch and then close the door...the security light should come on steady for about 2 minutes and then go out.....the alarm is armed at this point.....you can unlock the drivers door using the key to reset the alarm.....if you do this with the windows down you can open the door from the inside to set the alarm off and see if it works properly by flashing lights and horn....after you trigger the alarm you will have to reset it by using the key on the drivers door....

SOURCE: SL2 ? 2000 starting problem

I had the same problem at one time and what the problem was is a short or an exposed wire connected to the starter which causes the voltage to fluctuate which in turn activates a security feature that stops the flow of fuel to the injectors. The car actually senses the possibility of a spark which could possibly ignite the fuel and be a fire hazard. If you turn the ignition on and off repeatedly after a certain amount of time the car will start and run fine. It is a very intermittent problem.

Check the thermostat in the air inlet to the air-filter.
(Replace it is probably what you need to do.)

SOURCE: while running suddenly the service

You will need to take your car to an Auto Store (i.e. Auto Zone, O'Reilly's...) that have a FREE use of their diagnostic equipment to see what engine Error Code was set. From that, you can (kind of) tell what component(s) has failed or is failing and causing the service engine light to come on. Could be one of a dozen things like bad oxygen sensor, mass air flow sensor, EGR valve and on and on. Find the code and that should head you in the right direction.
Good Luck

I have a 94 Chevy Camaro Z28 security light was on I reset system now security light don't come on in car will not crank

The security ( anti-theft ) system on that vehicle will not cause a no crank , depending on what you think a no crank is . Turning the key to start an nothing happens is a no crank - no start condition . Now if you turn the key to start an the starter engauges an spins the engine over but won't start an run ,this is a crank no start condition . Two different type problems all together . How did you reset system ? Disconnect the battery ?

I have a 1995 pontic grand prix se.as soon as I start the car the security light comes on and stays on.

The ignition switch is not communicating with the BCM (body control modual) If it still runs your lucky, without getting it repaired soon the vehicle will stop running. The ignition will need replaced and the computer reprogramed to the new ignition lock. Your looking at a 4-$700 fix. GM's are starting to experience this alot more, the chip in keys and locks seem to have about a 10 year life span. There are bypass units available for around $200 but you have to install (have a profesional do it if your not well reversed in the automotive electronic field)

Security light goes on and off when sentra is not running

The blinking light doesnt mean that u have a security system it means that Nissan immobilization system (not an security alarm system) is working, which i believes comes standard on all new nissan cars now. but this feature prevents someone starting the car without a nissan key, because our keys have a microchip in it which the car can read. and if a key that doesn't have the right chip in it is used it wont turn on.

Check in your owners manual the right disarm procedure.

How do I program my key for my 2006 Chevy Impala?

Add Duplicate Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)
1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key
and turn it to ON (RUN).
4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming
the key into the vehicle.
Originate New Master Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)

1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position.
The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten minutes.
2. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next
step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back to the ON (RUN)
position. The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten
more minutes.
3. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next
step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back on the ON (RUN)
position. The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten
more minutes.
4. After the security light has gone off the third time, the key has been programmed
into the vehicle’s computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the
previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the
vehicle’s computer.

Add Duplicate Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)

1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key
