No unfortunately not as the screen is broken the only way to fix this problem would be to have the camera fixed and to do so would most likely cost more than the camera itself, but you can still take the photos that your taking off the SD card and load them on your computer to view and this will work just fine

Camera was dropped and now pictures take but are completely black

As has been explained many times, dropping a camera damages it. Damaged cameras do not work. They are what is technically known as 'broken'. You will have to get it repaired.

My Cannon Powershot SD1000 LCD screen does not work. It will take pictures but will not let me change options, view the menu, or view images- past or present. Pressing the DISP button does nothing.

Has the screen been cracked/damaged? Was your camera dropped in any liquid? It's worth it to try having the LCD screen replaced, as it's quite affordable. If there is liquid damage near the LCD input inside the camera that would be another issue that would be solved by replacing those main boards.

In an ideal situation it would be just that the backlight cable wiggled itself out of its input (I'm assuming the screen doesn't light up anymore), which is something you could look at yourself if you're comfortable taking your camera apart. I wish you luck =)

LCD Replacement?

You probably won't find a lcd replacement screen, only Nikon or a camera repair center would be able to get one. If you did find one, you probably wouldn't have the tools to fix it. And if you did have the tools, you won't have the Nikon calibration software to install it. Two options for you, send it to Nikon and spend a fortune fixing it, if you have dropped it, you may have more issues than a cracked screen. I have a friend who fixes cameras.

He can do it faster and cheaper than Nikon.

My camera was dropped and now the screen is cracked. it still takes photos however you can not view the photos or see the menu. Is there any way of fixing this problem?

Sounds like a cracked LCD screen. You may be able to fix it if you can find a replacement screen. I usually search ebay for a broken camera with other problems that I can cannibalize. Here's some examples on LCD replacement. Don't recommend that you try this yourself, unless you have some experience and are comfortable with electronics.

Otherwise, the cost of professional repair is usually beyond the value of this camera. A better option is to sell the camera on ebay for other repair hobbyists to attempt replacing the screen for themselves. You actually may get a good price for the camera IF it's still capable of taking pictures.

Cracked Camera

No easy fix. Pressure or impact is the usual cause of a cracked LCD. Try not to get the black stuff on anything....it's pretty toxic! The screen needs to be replaced (assuming there's no other, internal damage). They are usually in the range of $75 US.
