There seems to be corruption on the harddisk in the form of either viruses or spyware (and from the sounds of it, quite a bit).

The best solution here would be to restore the PC back to factory defaults if you have the disks, otherwise obtain an OEM copy of Windows which you can legally reinstall using the license key which is stuck onto the machines by the factory.

    Hi chungYu,
after reinstalling and upgrading if we scan pc, it would work ,after restoring to factory settings you will lose data.

  • Anonymous Mar 01, 2011

If you were able to get a scan started, you would be able to clear out some of the viruses.

You can boot the computer into safemode -
1.You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.

2.Click Start and then click Shut Down.

3.In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.

4.As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.

5.Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.

6.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

Once inside safemode, you can run the virus scanner and remove any unwanted malware.

The issue you are describing sounds like a software corruption issue (possibly due to the anti-virus software recently removing something it shouldn't.) If at all possible, you might consider attempting a System Restore (if it will let you) or see if you can do anything in Safe Mode (by hitting F5 during the boot process and selecting "Safe Mode" from the menu.) Chances are good that the operating system will need to be reloaded in the near future to completely resolve the issue, however

The best solution would be to do a "system restore".

Go to "Start/Windows menu --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools

Select a saving point in which you think your PC was working fine.

It is very possible that you have a virus infection. I recommend visiting this site and downloading the virus scanner from ESET. This software will be able to clean up your computer for you. I would also recommend removing Norton from your computer by going to the Start Menu > All Programs > then find Norton and click uninstall under that folder. You can purchase ESET on their website for $40 a year and it will offer you much greater protection.

I recently updated antivirus software ... now can't log onto FB

It sounds like perhaps your update of Norton has restricted certain internet sites, which isn't unheard of.

I would suggest turning off Norton for a moment, and seeing if you could log in then. If you can log in fine, it means it's a problem with Norton, and you can just allow it through Norton settings for blocked webpages and what not.

If not, I would suggest running some other free anti-virus software, such as Kaspersky, or Avast.

Good Luck!

Error code 2352

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from the CD
  1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If the installation program appears, then click Browse the CD
    • If the installation program does not appear, then double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
  3. Double-click the MSI folder.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the WIN9x folder.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click the WINNT folder.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the Instmsi.exe file.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe if you have Windows 2000/XP.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
  7. After the rollback has finished, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

If these steps do not fix the problem, then go on to the next section.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from a downloaded version
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find (or Search) > Files or Folders.
  2. Ensure that "Look in" is set to the drive where you downloaded Norton AntiVirus, and that "Include subfolders" is checked.
  3. In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, type the following:

      instmsi.exe
    • In Windows 2000/XP, type the following:

      instmsiw.exe
  4. Click Find Now or Search Now.
You might see many files with this name. Look for the file with this name that is located in either the Symantec_Norton_AntiVirus_2003 or the your Windows temporary file location depending on your version of Norton AntiVirus.
  5. In the Search Results window, do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click Instmsi.exe.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
This will undo the changes that were made to your system during the first failed installation.
  7. After the process finishes, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

Update problem with symantec antivirus

Close the antivirus program and reopen it. When it isclosed, the icon yellow for norton will not appear on bottom right hand side along with volume icon etc. You may also restart the computer to see id that helps. Right click the Norton icon and see id it says ENABLE AUTOPROTECT or DISABLE AUTOPROTECT. Try enabling.Try the same update after a while. If that does not work, try reinstalling Norton. I get 100s of viruses from 100s of friends and all sorts of things happen to me anti virus etc
but I am told that pretty normal
