I purchased a CBM-1000 direct thermal printer when my previous printer stopped working and I can't seem to find any relevant info on the net re: how to operate on a Mac with a parallel USB adaptor but also the only driver I could find was for 150euro. So if you could offer some insight into how to fix this problem I would be very appreciative. Thanks

I have an old cable lying around it has 1 serial plug a parallel plug and some others hanging on both ends. I can plug anything into anything in seconds. Obtain such a plug it you can. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Parallel-Printer-Cables-Parallel-to-Serial-Cable-5ft-/281215620527 Hey only $1
Do you actually have an ink cartridge for a citizen cbm 1000 ? Because as far as I know they are all thermal printers that do not use ink cartridges they use heat sensitive paper. Which is why they are used in retail as they don't have to change ink cartridges as well as paper and are much more reliable.
check fuse 2 as this would cause the 3 short 1 long flash code. Even if its not blown at least you can trace that part of the crcuit for other blown devices
is it serial or parallel? If it's serial, You can change the com port settings (baud rate) to a higher speed. You would need to change the dips on the printer to read the same Baud rate.
