Constant problems with these combo detectors. My best suggestion is unplug it from the wall, remove the battery, leave the battery compartment open, then using a can of compressed air that has a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) blow the dust and lint out of the unit. Pay particular attention to the grill vents on the front. When doing all of this, hold the can of compressed air as upright as possible. Replace the battery and plug it back into the wall receptacle.
Hopefully, that will clear up the problem. and accumulation of dust and lint will cause them to false at times.
Pressing and holding the test button for 5 seconds is "supposed" to reset the detector.
Actually if you read the Owner's Manual (pg. 22, can be found athttp://www.kiddeus.com/utcfs/ws-384/Asse... ) it says that these units are only good for 7 years, at which time they MUST be replaced. I have the same situation as you, one unit downstairs that still works fine, but the upstairs unit is chirping every 30 seconds (just like it says in the OM), meaning it must be replaced.

Disregard the answer above, as it is wrong. If you read your alarm, it says that if it chirps every 30 seconds, then it's a malfunction if it's before the "replace by date". It needs replaced. These are designed with a timed "self destruct" mechanism to do exactly what yours is doing 7 years after they are put into service. It's time to pitch it and get a new one.
