Thanks for your quick response. I have ordered the part that you suggested. Makes sense to me.

I replaced the part that you suggested and the cooktop is still having the same problem. Can you help?

    Thanks

I replaced the part that was recommended. It did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Gary

  • gary828 Mar 04, 2011

I do not see the second suggestion. Only the first one that did not solve the problem.

  • gary828 Mar 07, 2011

    Thank You.

It is more complex than I had hoped. Could be one of several things.

  • gary828 Mar 07, 2011

It is clear to me that you know nothing about this cook top. It has been working for a number of years exactly as described but now has failed. I suggest you get the manual and read about it or read the suggested fix for another sender.

    Thanks
    Gary

Exactly what part you replaced. And was there any difference in the problem after and before replacing the part. ------------ as per the problem the possible faulty parts can be Damaged igniter or faulty safety valve. 1. The thermostat control. 2. The igniter. 3. The automatic valve (also called the safety valve).
---------- The thermostat, igniter, and safety valve are wired in a series circuit. • When the thermostat knob is turned to a selected setting, electrical contacts in the thermostat close applying power to the series ignition circuit. • With power applied, the ignitor begins to heat. Electrical resistance in the ignitor will decrease as the temperature of the ignitor increases. • Electrical current in the series circuit increases in proportion to the drop in ignitor resistance. • The igniter limits the electrical current in the circuit to 3.3 to 3.6 amps. The surface temperature of the ignitor will be between 1800° and 2500°F. • When electrical current has reached the proper amperage, the automatic safety valve will open, releasing main burner gas. • The ignitor stays energized while the burner is lit. Once the selected temperature is reached, the thermostat contacts will open and remove power from the ignition circuit. The automatic safety valve will close after a few seconds, and the burner flame will go out. ----------And the burner will relight when temp-reaches down from selected. But if the safety gas valve does not open then it will not relight, or if the igniter is weak then it will not relight. The gas pressure is low then it will not let the cook top to relight. When you turn the selector off and turn on,the whole system works as it gets a flow of current. But its not working automatically as it should. Also other possibility can be selector switch/know itself.---------- This possibilities are to be checked.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

Gary,
What you are asking for is possible in electric units and not in gas ones. The gas supply may start when the temperature reaches the lower limit of the selected range but who to ignite the gas? This may lead to an accidental fire in the kitchen. No cook top will offer what you need. If it was electric then the circuit breaker/maker would have done the job.

Thermador Gas Range - Griddle ignition will not spark

I have a Thermador Gas Range PG364GDBS - Oven, 4 burners, and center griddle. All are gas. The four burners and gas oven work fine. The griddle just stopped working, no spark. Turning on the griddle control, the gas valve opens(hear it), gas flows (smell it), but the ignitor will not spark (no loud or faint spark that I can hear). I got a replacement ignition device (mount at the burner) thinking it might be the problem, but still no spark. I checked the AC voltage at the terminal and measured 39 VAC between the terminal and ground. Not sure if that is the correct voltage. Any insights or advice would be great.

Thermador PCS364GDUS griddle needs cleaning.

Wear gloves, put all items in a garbage bag. Put outside and spray a can of easy-off oven cleaner on all parts. Seal bag and let sit for 24 hrs. They should come out looking new after you rinse them off. After you wash them off, put them in a 300* preheated oven for about 30 min to ensure they are dry.

Range wont light

Hi
It sounds to me like a switch problem.
You should check the Gas Valve that correspond to that switch, and also check the Manifolds, there should be one manifold for each set of gas valve switches.
Hope this help.

Cleaning Thermador Cooktop?

To clean the stainless around the star burners try applying Easy-Off oven cleaner around the stars with a Q-tip (spray the cleaner onto the stainless surface first because it's very hard to control the spray output). The cleaner will make your stainless sparkle and the Q-tips allow you to get close enough while controlling the application. Scrub gently with the Q-tip and the stains will disappear within minutes. Wash thoroughly with a wet cloth. I've used this on my older model Thermador stainless cooktop for 5 years.
