I am trying to get NetFlix on my XBox 360. I have a router, I have a subscription to NetFlix and Windows live. The XBox 360n test screen keeps telling me that my Microsoft Windows Meadia failed the test. I have followed the online directions from Xbox PCsetup website but I still cant get it to work. My operating system is Windows XP. What do I need to do so that I have have movies from Netflix go through my XBox to my television?

You need an xbox live gold account to access netflix on your xbox. You will be accessing netflix through xbox live, not through through Windows Media Center on xbox and your computer.
You can find more info on how to set this up here: http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-live/how-to/netflix.aspx

Netflix is available as a native XBox 360 app, accessible from the Dashboard. It will need to be installed the first time you try to run it, but after that it runs like any other app. You do have to have the system updated to the latest Dashboard to use it, however. Look for it in the video marketplace. No PC is required to utilize the app on the XBox, although the system does have to be authorized to connect to your Netflix account

How to setup Xbox Live

You will need some kind of internet connection so you will use either an Ethernet cord or a Wifi adapter. After you connect to the internet through your Xbox 360 you will have a 1 month free Xbox live trial. When the trial ends you will either use an Xbox live silver subscription which doesn't allow you to play games on-line, use Netflix, etc. Otherwise you would need to buy an Xbox live gold pass which is a better deal as you purchase a longer subscription. Thank you

Having trouble connecting Xbox live. Have wireless router and wireless Xbox 360 adapter. Figured out where adapter goes. Now I'm stuck.

Is the router already setup and working? Do you have anything else that successfully connects to it "wirelessly", like a laptop or desktop or smartphone? If the answer is yes, here's how to setup the 360 to connect to your router:

1. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
2. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
3. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
4. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.
5. Save your settings and verify the network is functional. On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option.
Tips: Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.

Do you have Xbox live gold? If not this might be the reason since MIcrosoft does not allow you to stream Netflix without the Gold Subscription.

Hey, I am a mom with no idea what I need to get to set up xbox live. We have an xbox 360 but have no clue what I need to purchase to have xbox live

first off you need an xbox live subscription to use xbox live. Also I am assuming you have a broadband connection. So the best way is to purchase a router and then hook up your computers and xbox to that router via ethernet cable. Here are two links that should help you:

It is a compulsary update for your Xbox 360 system so it can support the feature you are trying to do. So you really might want to join to Xbox Live by creating an Xbox Live account and by signing in to Xbox Live, it will automatically install the latest firmware to update your system.

Try Connecting to live and let it do the connection test and post what it says and we can get more of an idea on how to solve your issue..

And when your plugging it in keep xbox off and than when its in turn xbox on that might be it.

And your using the grey chord right? The one that goes from the xbox to the router? Or xbox to modem?

I am trying to set up xbox live for my son but when i try to go live on the xbox dashboard it says that wireless network not connected but i have a wireless network running in my house and need to know how...

  1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

  2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

  3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

  4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

  5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
  6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.
Tips:
  1. Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.
