According to the Instruction Manual it requires 6 AAA batteries, you will need a Phillips screwdriver to access the panel where you must replace it.
The remote controller and the engine need batteries.
Engine
• Locate the battery compartment on the back of the Engine. • Loosen the screws in the battery compartment door with a Phillips screwdriver. Lower the battery compartment door and insert three "AAA" (LR03) alkaline batteries. • Close the battery compartment door and tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten. • If this product begins to operate erratically, you may need to reset the electronics. Remove the batteries and replace them in the toy.

Look for a small opening with little white tabs that can be moved up and down, on both the train and the remote. All the tabs must be in the same position. ( Same thing on a garage door opener.)
If that's not it, make sure the batteries are in correctly in both items, reversed batteries will run lites and such, but not remote controls.

Lionel battery operated g scale locomotive will not move

Replace all batteries in locomotive & remote.
You do need to be fairly close to the set with the
remote for it to work.

Playmobil RC Train set 4018 - have replaced all batteries but the charger wont work. It won't power the train - remote working fine. Don't know what else to do.

Clean the terminals in the remote and at the end of the battery, also inside the battery compartments that holds the battery in the charger and the the train itself. i hadn't used ours for 10 years and hadn't realised that we had left the battery in the train and the 9v battery in the handset. Tried charging it and nothing, but once i had cleaned all terminals of the green residue that had built up, it charged fine and the train ran for 45 mins before needing a recharge.

Remote control train won't work

The wires will have pulled off the circuit board inside.

Remove screws (force a hex driver in there) and solder wire back on.

Train surgey (geddit) is very fiddly. Have a drink first! ;-)

Brio remote control express doesn't move anymore

I wish I could help - I have exactly the same problem! Train opened Christmas Day, worked ok. Batteries seemed to gradually die 2-3 days later. Replaced all 3 sets of batteries twice, but nothing. Initially I got sounds, but nothing now.

There is no on/off switch. Remote will give no indication of working. Try putting engine and coal car only and try. I have had this train set for two years and the remote tends to work whenever it wants.

try replacing battaries, but unless you have circuit board training on how to repair broken connections i would just go get a nice universal remote and tape pillows to it so you cant break it.. .:P
