Hi Cindy,
Dirty print out is basically due to cartridge related issues. Take out the cartridge and clean its drum/ (green roller) with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. The drum is usually located under a cover. Checkout for any spilled toner inside the printer and clean it also. Print a few pages so that the parts get further cleaned. I think, this would solve the issue.

Moreover, black streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Try cleaning it or replacing the Magenta Cartridge. If required, get the PCR Roller changed by a professional.

Let me know if any further clarification is required.
GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

A 1/4 inch stripe of magenta ink runs down the side of all pages printed.

Hi ,
Dirty print out is mostly due to cartridge related issues. In this case it seems that magenta is the issue. Take out the cartridge and clean its drum/ (green roller) with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. The drum is located under a cover. Checkout for any spilled toner inside the printer and clean it also. Print a few pages so that the parts get further cleaned. I think, this would solve the issue.

Moreover, streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located just behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Try cleaning it or replacing the Magenta Cartridge. If required, get the PCR Roller changed by a professional.

Let me know if any further clarification is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Every page I print out has a vertical stripe down the left hand side of the page.

(1) Clean the corona wire in the drum unit.
(2) Check that the wire cleaner is at the home position.
(3) Check that the toner cartridge is not empty.
(4) The drum unit may be damaged. Install a new drum unit.
(5) The toner cartridge may be damaged. Install a new toner cartridge.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Lines on print. There's are three lines on picture print only. Can't see the line on document. It's about 1/4 inch wide and going throught top to bottom.

Have ou gone into your menus. Into troubleshooting, then image quality.
You will want to run both the eliminate light stripes and eliminate smears procedures. that will purge the print head, blow air through the jets and hopefully resolve the problem. I do believe the 8550 has a Jet Substitutin procedure where you can do a workaround and make other jets make up for the light areas.
here are some directions, Will forward more

  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Troubleshooting Print Quality Page], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Evaluate the 'Light Stripes Test' page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. The 'Light Stripes Test' page is the last page of the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page that printed.

WARNING: To avoid injury, do not touch the sharp metal strip attached to the clear rubber wiper blade in the Maintenance Kit.

  5. Use a clean lint-free cloth or a new paper coffee filter to gently clean the maintenance unit's clear rubber wiper blade, use only a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade, and then empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance kit wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets.

  6. 8500-wiper-blade-clean.jpg

  7. Repeat step 3 to reprint the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages. If there are no missing or partially missing color bars then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are missing or partially missing color bars then the printhead cleaning procedure will need to be performed. Continue with the next section.
To clean the printhead using the basic eliminate light stripes procedure:
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Eliminate Light Stripes], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Basic], and then press the [OK] button. The printer will perform a head cleaning, which will take about five minutes. The printer will then print a cleaning page and a light stripes test page.
  5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 one more time. If there are no weak or missing jets then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are still weak or missing jets after two basic light stripe cleanings, continue with step 6.

NOTE: Do not try the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes Cleaning mode without performing two basic cleanings first.

To clean the printhead using the advanced eliminate light stripes procedure:

  6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Advanced], and then press the [OK] button.
  7. Select the missing jet color and number. If necessary, check the light stripes test page to determine the color and jet number of the missing jet.

NOTE: Only perform the advanced light stripe cleaning once. If weak or missing jets still persist, continue with step 8.

  8. Print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. If necessary, perform the basic eliminate light stripes procedure one more time. If the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes procedure does not resolve the weak or missing jets, perform the Enable Jet Substitution Mode. See the Related Items below.

Right side of every page has pink strip down page

Either your magenta cartridge is leaking out of the right corner or you have a defective magenta drum.
(maybe it got scratched when changing the cartridge?) If it's the magenta drum, you have to replace all the drums since they come in one unit. OEM part only.

Only black and blue will print on test page; yellow and magenta does not. Ink was just replaced.

Did yellow and magenta print OK before the previous cartridges ran out? If so, it looks like your new cartridges are not working properly. Try another yellow and magenta cartridge - you can re-use the previous cartridges if they turn out not to be faulty. If new cartridges don't solve the problem, you can try soaking the print head, in case you have nozzles blocked with dried ink for some reason.

Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any magenta/yellow ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the head clean/nozzle check process 2 or 3 times, but not more. Leave for 24 hours for any air bubbles to disperse. If nothing, repeat the soak process once more. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

Stripe down page!!

Thanks for the clarification.

The "Cleaning Stick" is actually a little pad on the end of a flexible piece of plastic that wipes off the glass that covers the Laser.

Tip: When you are using it, you should apply a slight upward pressure on the end you are pulling and pushing. This forces the pad down onto the glass and will give better results. The little plastic rods that are attached to the pad are very flexible and should not break with the slight upward pressure.

Now for the actual problem:

You are getting the glass clean with the pad but it isn't staying clean.

The reason for this is that Toner (Black, Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) is drifting down from up above.

The usual cause for this (with the CX11) is that one or more of the Toner Cartridges are not inserted properly or that they were inserted properly but have popped loose.

I suggest that you check ALL toner cartridges.

It would be best to Remove and Re-insert them.

No need to completely remove the cartridges from the "drum".
Just pull them out slightly then re-insert them properly.

Make sure that you follow the Manual Instructions to the letter !
I have seen some so-called "experts" remove/insert them improperly !

Good Luck !

Magenta doesnt print in proper place

Sounds like the new cartridge has been sitting around for too long. The solid lines are usually due to the drum being exposed to light for too long. The other reason could be the charger roller has been in contact with drum (in the cartridge) for a very long time and probably heat has a part in it as well. Try another cartridge.
