I have a 1995 Sharp Carousel R-1440. Our power went out then when it came on our microwave it no longer working properly. the clock works but when the door is closed the cooling fan starts running- it does not heat and the turntable does not move. "Clear" does nothing and the other buttons do not work (power level, minute plus, etc). the stop/clear works to allow setting the clock. The main fuse is good. Is something fried on the circuit board? Thanks

I tried to update this the next day, but I couldn't find it!

After reading the other problems and potential solutions I went looking for relay R1Y(?), but couldn't find it. What I found was the safety switch for the upper door latch was loose. So I taped it up and Behold! the moicrowave worked!!! The temporary electrical tape only held a couple days, so then I used rubber cement - that didn't even last a day. So then on to the real stuff; I 'super glued' it. That held the switch okay, but somehow the switch stopped working, it would never 'close'. So I managed to pry out the switch without too much damage to the plastic frame and am looking to buy another switch. (OMRON V-16G-3C25). I've seen it for $5 online (with shipping), but will be checking locally this week.
Thanks for the reply, I guess the storm was coincidental? Weird. The symptoms sure seemed like something more drastic was wrong. Great website :)

Yes your oven's controller is probably malfunctioning you need to replace the SYSTEM BOARD but I personally suggest to buy an other oven.... the system board will be hard to find and expensive...

See if other electronics is acting funny since the power loss... you could CLAIM the damage from the insurance company

Good luck!!

How to fix Sharp Carousel Microwave Oven R-303CW clock not working?

The clock is part of the control board and cannot be repaired as a separate item. Most replacement control boards costs as much as
a new microwave.

My R1514F Sharp Carousel microwave does nothing. The lightw work, the clock works, but does not heat

No heat can be a bad inverter board (power supply) or a diode or the Magnetron itself.

Yes! but the fuse went for a reason, the problem could be a bad door switch to a more serious problem.

I have the Sharp R-1440 carousel microwave oven and it won't shut off when I close the door. Do you know how old this oven might be? Model R-1440; Serial 123662

Check and change door interlock switches or check for condensation problem on control panel, (internal).
Hope that helps.

For a 1995 Sharp Carousel Convection Microwave oven Model # R-9H66 it has on display screen ''LOCK'' and will not allow any function, is there a solution? The light inside works when the door is opened...

Check the user book for the unlock code. This could be the child lock mode.

If one of the safety switches are defective, or if there is a sensed power supply fault, the uPC will put the oven in the lock mode for safety reasons.

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!
