The gas burners are about 18" from that grid. The orange u see is the burner flame. The grid looks burned because of the heat from the flame. Try taking a shop vacuum to the grid and see if you can suck any lint from the burner chamber. If you get a lot, then it might be worth taking the dryer front off and cleaning it out. I doubt you have any safety worries. It is surprising how much lint gets inside of a dryer.
Were you running the dryer without the lint screen in place? sound like you got something on heating element. Also the heating element does glow orange when it's on. If it keeps on getting too hot, there is a sensor that shuts off element after a certain temp. This may not be working right. Just what I came across working on my own in the past.
What your seeing is lint that got caught in the vent and over time heat will burn the lint. This is also a sign that you need to clean your lint trap more often
when is the last time that you had your dryer dlinted that red glow is from the heater which usually does glow red ad if you havent had your dryer dlinted within the past year you probably have lint that is smoldering on the inside when you turn the dryer on.if you are mechanically inclined you can open the machine and use a shop vac to **** up most of the lint there is also a blower vent tube inthe back of the machine that shoudl be also cleaned out if you are unable to do this please call a technician p.s. get a quote first you can usually shop around and get the best price on this type of job hope this helps
Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.
your orfices are dirty or the air/fuel mixture needs adjusting so as to properly burn all the gas, can you see what color the flame is during operation, if it is more orange than blue your mixture is off, if it has flickers of orange it may just need the orfices cleaned out with a tip cleaner
you smell lint heating up,when is the last time you had your lint trap, lint exhaust, and wall lint hole cleaned out, that is your problem(very unsafe could catch on fire inside the dryer, let me know-mike
I have a top loading Kenmore High capacity dryer that is over 10 years old, it has been working very well, unfortunately when cleaning the lint filter my wife dropped a piece of paper down the lint duct hole. The paper evidently fell to the bottom of the lint duct. I am unable to reach the paper from the top of the dryer where the lint filter is inserted. The dryer now makes a grinding type noise when it is turned on. Can you tell me how to reach the paper and remove it
