We hava a Casio CTK-601 Synthesizer Keyboard. It was accidently left plugged in with a 12 volt adaptor. It uses a 9 volt adaptor. We do not know if it was having the following problem before or after this incident. Eight keys in the middle do not play and thirteen keys on the right end do not play. We have a manual and have read it. We tried turning off all power (unplugging and removing any batteries). Then hold down power button for approximately 20 seconds, then plugging adaptor back in and turning on power, to reset to factory default settings. The keys that would not play will then make a sound one time when pressed. The eight keys in the middle, are very low sounding and one of the black keys will occassionally hang up and keep playing until you turn power off and back on. The thirteen on the right end, will then play very loud and occassionally one of the black keys will hang up and keep playing until you turn power off and on. I have asked a music store about this problem and was told their technician could look at it for $80, and that is not including if he finds anything wrong and fixes it. I understand that the wrong voltage adaptor can destroy one. My friend just purchased it for $50, used as is at an auction. That weekend the keyboard was left plugged in. When my friend went to pick-up her purchase she discovered it had been left plugged in, and the adaptor was very hot and burned her hand unplugging it. We were told the keys were playing before and that it was probably something minor that we had to do to make them play, or either the contacts may need cleaning. Can you help or have any solutions or suggestions? I have researched for a service manual and found two, but not sure how hard a job it would be to tackle it ourselves, and we don't want to have to sink a whole lot of money in it if it is not fixable. We would appreciate a response. Thank you. Barbara, NC

That is a good detailed description. The factory reset is a good idea.

It sounds like a corrupted firmware. 12 volt instead of 9 volt is not a big overload, depending on the design. The fact that the adapter was very hot points to a serious electronic fault perhaps occuring. If the amp rating of the 12 volt one is adequate, this is probably the case. The 12 volt adapter could also get very hot if it is under rated for the job, which gives no real information about the fault.

It is possible that the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply could have been stressed and the power supply is now inadequate. The service manual would be handy in this scenario. If the digital electronics is corrupt or damaged, the chance of an economic fix is much less.

Can't connect my ctk-720 to my mac

The Mac needs the driver, and you may need to select it in Chooser as well. If it is not on the instruction disk, it should be downloadable from the manufacturers website.

I have a Casio CTK 551 Keyboard, when the AC adaptor is connected and power is turned on, the Keyboard lights up for a few seconds then turns off. I noticed no red light lights up when the AC adaptor is...

The adapter has a problem... likely a poor connection of input power that briefly contacts building up some voltage that is then stored in the capacitors in the adapter which then discharge quicklly when you turn on the Casio. The adapters with FIXED blades OFTEN have problems contacting the connections in wall receptacles and extension cords. You may need to bend the blades slightly or use a better receptacle like connector. IF your adapter has a three wire cord from it to the wall receptacle, those SOMETIMES don't seat well...

Connect usbtocomputer

Hello - I am too a personal owner of a CASIO CTK keyboard, a little older than yours (model CTK-601) a great keyboard BTW, and I have connected it to my computer successfuly.

There are 2 ways of connecting the keyboard to your PC......Using the MIDI outputs and a special MIDI to gameport adapter - if you have a very old system and have a joystick port (D-sub shape) on your soundcard or PC, then you use that cable. Of course this is legacy and stopped existing in newer computers, now USB is used.

Only the professional line of soundcards have direct MIDI inputs. For most of us, with consumer soundcards and PCs, there are no MIDI inputs.

The good news is that newer keyboards support USB MIDI and features direct USB connection - so all you have to do is install the drivers that are provided with your keyboard, usually a CD, and follow the instruction to install the USB drivers for your casio keyboard, BEFORE you plug in the cable (very important!) once installed you reboot and connect your keyboard using a USB cable

Now if your keyboard is older and has MIDI outputs, like mine for example, you will need to purchase a MIDI to USB adapter, those have MIDI cables in one end that plug to your keyboard and the other end a USB connector....... I don't know about the rules if I am allowed to post websites, but the product i'm using is the Uno from M-Audio - in google do this search:

"m-audio"uno

(exactly as shown above with quotes, and uno outside quotes)

Your CTK-810 may alreayd have a USB connector on it, as it is a newer generation keyboard - I am pretty sure it does - what you will have to do as stated above is located your bundled CD-ROM and install the USB drivers - you will need to purchase a USB cable (seperately).
