Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Whirlpool duet washing machine Hot and cold water are inverted when filling up the machine's bassin: I choose cold water and it fills up with hot water. The rinse cycle is fine though. What could be the problem? Obviously the pipes are fine and not inverted. Thanks for your help!

The Cold inlet for this machine is on the right side.. with a blue indicator ring on it. When I say Right this is looking at the machine from the back.. Left if looking at the machine from the front. in other words the inlet closest to the edge of the machine.

If you are able to pull the machine out from the wall a little.. Start the fill cycle with cold water reach behind the machine and feel the supply hoses. If the hose closest to the edge of the machine is warm.. you simply have the hoses hooked up wrong.

Turn off the water.. swap hoses.. and all should be well..

I doubt the blue colour ring was put on the wrong inlet.. but.. stranger things have happened.

The Hot inlet should be indicated with a red colour ring..

In most installs the hoses will cross over each other.. not unusal at all. Always use new hoses when installing a washer.

Good luck

    Hi!

Thanks for the information. However, the hoses are properly installed. The machine has been in use for over 5 years and has always functionned properly. Nothing has been unplugged or changed in the setup that co9uld have caused the problem.

Any further solution suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

Sounds like the water inlet valve is bad.. if the machine is set on cold cold and you still get hot...that's probably the cause.. the part is about 45 dollars.. labor.. unknown.. but not a complex job.. however it could be the controller.. doubtful.. more than likely the inlet valve (also known as a mixing valve) is bad. If so.. this is a DIY project.

One other thing.. you did not mention if the rinse was a hot or cold rinse.. I assume cold.

It is possible to test the solenoids on the inlet valve.. if you have a volt ohm meter.. and you can test to see if the controller is working properly...

The first test is simply for resistance.. the the solenoid fails.. then test for 120 volts at the solenoid by turning the machine to fill..first on cold.. test the cold solenoid.. then repeat for hot..

    Best of luck

When set on delicate cold/cold water, it starts to fill with cold but switches to hot water after a few seconds

Sounds like you've got the hoses switched, and the cold water you're feeling is just what is in the hot water lines until the lines get purged. Try filling on the hot setting and see if cold or hot comes out; my guess is you'll get cold water on the hot setting.

Turned on whirlpool duet washer, came back to FH as realized forgot to turn water on. Have tried all the suggestions, but each time I plug the machine it tries to drain water and the motor hums. I cannot...

Make sure both hot and cold water supplies are turned on. Select a cold wash cycle and start the wash cycle, do you get cold water? Now select a hot wash cycle and start the wash cycle, do you get hot water? If you only get cold water replace the hot water fill valve. If you only get hot water replace the cold water fill valve. If you get neither replace both fill valves.

Whirlpool Duet GHW9100LW1 fills up with power off

You have a faulty fill valve

If you want to check which one, try turning off the cold supply only before you go to bed

If the washer has water in it next morning it is the hot valve that has gone faulty if it is dry then it is the cold one

They are easy to change and can be bought from a number of suppliers

When my Duet washer is not running, it slowly fills with water. This has happened about 3 times.

the most common problem with a slow filling washing machine is a blocked filter
this is located inside the hose usually near the machine.
it this is not blocked
it may be a stuck valve, to test if this is the case connect the hot water and see if that fills quicker.
a short term fix would be to connect both hoses to cold if you can.
If your machine requires hot water to function it may not fill all the way because it will switch off if there is no hot water.
hope this helps.
