Your best bet for this problem is to rearrange the way you have your direct tv and dvd hooked up to your television. a lot of the time you can plug the dvd player into the input/antenna in jack on the back of the receiver. that way you can watch all the channels you want AND be able to watch dvds without having to unplug and replug stuff in. more than likely you'll have to push an input or tv/vcr button in order to switch between watching direct tv and dvds, but it's a lot simpler than switching chords around.

Magnavox MDR533HF7 timer programmer records wrong channel sometimes

You have to record some channels manually and you can not use the timer. Since TV went digital the channels are not really on the channel that you see. Where I live channel 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and so on are really on channel 35 and 45. This tuner has a hard time with these channels because they are not on the station that you see and it does not look like this will be fixed.

Recordering with directv

You can record either the channel 3 or channel 4 output channel from the DirecTV box or connect the analog audio and video outputs to the recorder's inputs and use the In1 or In2 inputs.

Have magnavox dvd recorder record direcTV DVR programs w/ hdtv

I am unfamiliar with this unit.
If you have scart connecters on both, connect av2 on the tv to av in on the recorder. set the recorder to record from av source.
You should now record a program, I think the static is the fact that composite is out from the dvd only, not an input, and in on the tv, not an output.

Vcr hooked to tv and converter box. Will not record digital chann

The vcr has to be set to channel 3 or 4. The converter box has to set to the channel you want to record the show from and left on during the time that the vcr is recording or you will get no recordings.

My VCR/DVD Recorder won't record a program that I like.

I don't have a solution unfortunately, but I also have this problem. I cannot, no matter what the manual says (which it doesn't) figure out how to select which channel I want to have recorded to dvd-r.

Someone? Anyone? Help us??

Tuner free

Magnavox (philips) is one of the cheapiest dvd/vcr combos that offer excellent quality on the market. If you have a cable box or Directv box, simply use the audio/video connections on the back and connect them in the combo, then you can record from the television programs whenever you want.

Recording from directv

Well I don't have that problem anymore since I unplugged the thing for about a minute. It's working fine now.

Dvd player wont recognize newly burned dvd

Give this a try : write a DVD at 1x speed (lowest speed) and test it on your laptop. If this works ok then either use better media or lower (e.g half) your writing speed........
